Well, I bought a Jeep Cherokee today!!

I will try to take some pictures ASAP, but until then, here's the specs:

1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo (Dark Green w/ Light Gray Trim)
4.0 I6 HO Engine
Selec-trac (4x4)
Leather Seats
Power Everything
Overhead Console

It is in great condition, however, there are 2 rust spots. Any advice on how to get rid of surface rust?

They sell some stuff you can spray on surface rust that is supposed to stop it in it's tracks...but it turns the rust purply-black. So you'd have to sand it and respray it the right color anyway...

Congrats on FINALLY getting the Jeep!

If you just want the rust gone, there is a simple way to get rid of it. It won't look professional, but at least you won't have rust anymore. Take a small grinder and lightly grind all the surface rust away. Then take some Bondo and put a thin layer over where the rust used to be. Then sand it down. Start with kinda course paper and work your way down to something like 1200 grit wet/dry paper. Then spray it with a primer. Finally get some touch up paint mixed for you and get an aerosol type sprayer with bottle to hold the paint (you can pick this up for like $8 at Napa). Spray a couple light coats on, and depending on the finish you can put on a layer of clearcoat if you wish. I did this on my old crustang, and it didn't look bad at all.

rust inhibitor

ok the stuff you want is called OSPHO-I've only ever heard it being called this and i have no idea where to get other than the paint booth on the hangar deck where i work-Randy congrats on your jeep purchase you seemed very excited about going OffRoading-for you I'll ask the Metal Shop/Corrosion Specialists at work for you tomorrow and find out what the hell the stuff is exactly and if you can get it comercially AND how to apply it-cuz i think even leaving a little rust and just spraying this stuff on isnt doing any good(although it is supposed to change the chemical composition from IronOxide-rust-to something completely different) I'll get details for you and post or IM you Friday night

Congratulations!

I just sold a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo when we bought the Intrepid. What a great vehicle. I hope you enjoy yours, 'cause I sure miss mine. They go ANYWHERE!! The Cherokee is a true SUV: solid front axle, low-range transfer case, more truck than anything else. In stock form, that vehicle will put just about every brand-new SUV to shame in terms of capability.

I am not trying to stat a pissing match here: I simply don't care what anyone else says, becasue I know, and soon, you will too!

You'll probaly find out that the muffler is stock. All the HO 4.0L sound great right from Jeep. I put a Dynomax cat-back on mine. Cost like 90.00 from Jeg's, and boy did that improve the sound! K&N makes an FIPK kit for it too!

So, if you need any assistance or have any questions, give me a holler. I spent a lot of time and money working on the Cherokee. Lifted 2", 30" tires on aluminum rims . . . I want to build another one some day!

I like the 4.0L so much, I am converting my '85 CJ-7 over to one from the 258. Fuel injection, 190 (about double) HP . . . I want to start NOW!!

Congrats again! Good choice!

Good get! Looks to be in beautiful shape, and doesn't look like it has the traditional Cherokee wiper slap on the cowl either.

I WANT MINE BACK!!! WAAAAAAH!!!!!

I do, however, have two questions:

1.How many miles?
2. How much did you pay for it? (if you don't mind)

I think I might have some pics of mine on disc. Wanna see?

Man that thing is in great shape. You got a good deal Randy. I never really liked that style, but I think that one looks pretty good. I hope it treats you well. :D

Check this out:

The salesman I bought the car from, called me back today and said there was a problem.

He said he screwed up, and the price of the car should have actually been $4200, and not $2450

He said I had 2 options:

1. Bring the car back, and we can come to another agreement.

2. (...and he didn't tell me this ;) ) Stick to my guns and say "A Deals a Deal" when the owner tries to call me.

Of course I chose #2 ;)

This guy was very nice, so I told him "I hoped he didn't get in any trouble", but he did :(

Anyways, I does look like I got a kick ass deal. Thankfully I bought it last night, and didn't wait to think about it :D

Just out of curiousity, if someone knows the law well...

Is there any way they can make me take the car back and pay a higher price?

I signed all the paperwork, have temporary plates, etc... I even have my copies of the receipts and the paper I signed?

I'm a little worried, but I really don't think there is anything they can do?
