these URL's arent working worth a darn..wtf?

oh well search police interceptor fires on youtube if interested. 4 seperate test and all 4 tires the brakes caught on fire....what happened to this "heavy duty" brake setup...lame

interceptor brakes catching on fire :banghead:

You have to use the YT tags.

Heres how to do it -
Go to youtube, find the video you like. Grab the youtube code

Now click the you tube icon in the editor, you will see a [.yt] and [./yt]

Between those enter the code from the youtube link after the = sign

Did Chrysler take the cars back or were they stuck with them?

It is my understanding that the problem was caused by using DOT3 instead of DOT5.

Many suggested using vented rotors to avoid the problem, but in the end it came to a fluid problem.

Now, the interesting question is: If the cars were supposed to be delivered with DOT5, why Chrysler delivered them with DOT3?

The problem seems to be that the pads do not conduct heat well, so the heat is not dissipated, but is carried through bolts (the pads are both bonded and bolted) to the piston and seals. Some brake fluid squirts out and is ignited by the rotor. This problem, devastating to Dodge's credibility, reportedly could have been prevented by using silicone-based fluid.

That's interesting.

I thought it was cool when the Treps were going around the corner at speed and were almost completely flat. Then the Impala comes around and it leans as much as a convertible lol.

Most police departments don't go to a car dealer and order their fleet. They go with companies that that buy in bulk and make them work ready IE: break them in, add decals, light bars and such.
100% true. But the bad reputation hit Chrysler really bad. In the news nobody mentions the companies that do the setup. :icon_neut

LOL shows how shitty our brakes are. I know my are burning up every time i check on them.

This car has prob the worst brakes I have ever used. I go through rotors and pads non stop.

On a side note, its funny how chrysler continues to use shitty parts, even on their srt8 models they dont use brembo brake calipers as high performance vehicles do. They use a chrysler specific rotor designed by brembo act as a floating caliper on a fixed rotor rather than what ferraris use on their brembos where tits a fixed caliper, floating rotor setup is used.

If youre thinking "well its a ferrari, what do you expect?" you are dead wrong, all motorcycles use the same setup and in addition all aftermarket brembo kits use the same design. Other manufacturers such as audi, vw, infiniti that offer brembo upgrades on their vehicles also use the best method of floating rotors.

But our super-knowledge daimler designers decided to just add some fancy red/black/silver rotors on their srt8 models and just keep a fixed rotor so u get ur teeth kicked out of your jaw when you brake. Fixed rotors also warp rotors a lot quicker under heavy braking for obvious reasons.

Overall, chrysler brakes suck. Everyone knows it, including the dealers that sell them.
