My brake lights will not go off! The car is off, ligts are off, but brake lights are on as if the brakes are being pressed. If I take out the fuse, then they will go off. Now, i'm wondering, just a thought, I noticed that the third brake light, the one in the rear window is not on, and not coming on when brake is pressed. Could it be, the third brake light is blown, and for some strange reason, this is why the others are staying on.....as some kind of notification? any other ideas why?

is your brake pedal all the way up, i had that problem with my blazer before. And the brake pedal wasnt coming up all the way. When i drove i had to reach under with my foot and pull it up all the time.

It appears all the way up. I'll check it again after work, i don't know why all of a sudden it would start doing this, the only thing that really has me curious now, is that third brake light, i'm going to try changing that bulb later too.

There normally is a brake switch located on the stem of the brake pedal. This switch may be faulty. Or possibly stuck. You may want to check that also.

The switch was faulty on my Lincoln and the bulbs kept going dead. More than likely, the switch is just bad. Pull on the pedal and on the switch to see if the lights turn off, if nothing happens, I guess you have to keep pondering..

Check the switch located top area or at least look for where a wire connects to a pin around the brake pedal. Spray some WD 40 (cover floor area) and work it...use lithium grease as well is you can and work it...This may free it up enough to fix...if not replace the pin switch. For now you can just unplug wire to see if it is the actuall reason...Hope this helps,

The other week I saw a car with reverse brake lights! They would be on when she was driving and turn off when she was braking! Screwed with my mind for the first few seconds

A car company (I think it was Mercedes) did a test with this. It seems, at night, if there's a light that's on while driving, but turns off as soon as the brakes are depressed, the cars following this driver will react quicker. I think it's a good idea. (As long as it's not actually using the reverse lights for this procedure)

*Edit* BTW, wouldn't disconnecting the brake switch above the brake pedal triggor the Check Engine Light? If that thing goes, it should be covered under warranty. It's a safety item and shouldn't fail at all.

my gf's intrepid did this the other day , stepping on the brake pedal again fixed it.

my guess is that the brake switch which is activated by the movement of the pedal is dirty and is getting stuck , they only cost few dollars so do yourself and yorru insurance company a favor and replace it before someone looks in your trunk ;)
