Brake transmission shift interlock 1999 Intrepid

I have a 1999 Intrepid with 2.7 with floor shifter. I have never had my brake shift interlock work. I can shift at anytime. I was just reading about a recall which my car said had done. It covered 93-99 Intrepids. I think 2000 and up were redesigned because it made the news. I looked up my VIN and said it was already done. Well obviously wasn't done right. I believe the dealer still covers this because it is safety. I have a daughter and don't want anything to happen. I took it apart and the little small spike that sticks into the plastic bent and broke. I actually took the shifter out which is not too hard. 5 bolts. The whole mechanism is poorly designed. I hope the dealer will change it out. What do you think?

don't know what they'd do. probably should have mine looked at.
hasn't worked since i owned it.
i can take it out of park anytime.
never caused me a problem, but you do have to be careful to put it in park, since the key can be removed without it in park too.
if it has been done, i'd doubt they'd honor a warranty.
how long ago was it done?

I don't know how long ago it was done. Just says done on the website. 2004 I guess but not sure. I think I will tell them the story how my car started rolling and hit my neighbors car. They might take that seriously.

so does not pushing the button will still allow you to shift into D from P or does that still work?

No you still have to push the button to get it out of gear, that part still works as long as it is locked. But at anytime you can push the button and take it out of gear. The interlock cable is supposed to work with the key but it is not connected anymore as the unit is broken. So its like the 60's all over again. Just throw her in gear anytime.
