first i want to thank the guy that responded to my first post.sorry i didnt say that sooner.now its my brakes.bottle bled em 1at a time.still goes to the floor.also can anyone help me on how to bust loose the front right spindle nut?been at it 2 days.thanks for any feedback.the bear.

If you're talking about the big 32mm nut that retains the outboard side of the CV axle shaft, assuming you don't have an impact, keep the car on the ground, get a good breaker bar and step on it. If that doesn't work, sometimes I have resorted to slipping a length of heavy pipe over the end of a breaker bar. You will have an incredible amount of leverage if the length of pipe is long enough, and I've been able to break loose fasteners that are torqued to hundreds of foot pounds. But beware, this is more than enough torque to move the car, and it's also enough torque to break a cheap socket or breaker bar. My cheater pipe is about 5 feet long and 2" in inside diameter.

If that doesn't work, and you have access to an acetylene torch, you can cook the nut until it's glowing a dull red and usually break it free. No guarantees that the bearing will be any good after you do that, though. You can also get a BFH and a cold chisel and cut it off. In other words, you may have to destroy it to get it off. That does happen.

If the nut is that corroded, you may end up needing a new hub/bearing assembly and half shaft by the time you’re able to get it all apart. BTDT! (Actually, I got the nut off but the half shaft stub was solidly joined to the bearing ID by severe corrosion.) If it comes down to that, you’ll have to grind down the OD of the CV joint about 1/16 to 1/8” all around to get the half shaft thru the hub/bearing assembly hole in the knuckle. Lots of fun! :)

Thanks guys.i got that nut off in less than a minute with a borrowed impact.switched out the axle today but i dont think i got the inner joint all the way in the trans.can i just remove spindle nut and shove the axle in further,i believe its only lacking 1/4 inch,or should i just take it all back apart? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

One post tells you how to find your existing threads. The other one addresses how you can push the inner joint harder and further into the transmission stub. There’s a split ring at the end of the ID of the inner joint that has to “click” into a groove in the OD of the transmission stub to lock the axle to the stub - the detent of the split ring into the groove works so well that sometimes it’s hard to get them separated again.

It’s a good idea to put some grease on the splines and the split ring before installing it. Helps it to go together more smoothly, and prevents corrosion and otherwise makes it easier if you ever have to remove it again - makes it easier to pop the split ring into and out of the groove, but it will still work plenty well to keep the axle from popping off the stub on its own.

If you have trouble getting the inner joint to push onto the stub far enough to “click”/lock into place, you might need to remove it to put some grease on it, but hopefully that won’t be necessary. On the other hand, it may save you some trouble later on if you ever need to remove it again - they can be stubborn to separate.
