Well for those of you that didnt see my thread with my pics of the Eagle Vision and my dads trap beside it, my dads got totalled 3 days ago by a women running a red light.
So now we are looking at getting a 2nd gen trep. Looking at 2002-2004 SXT's. Just wondering if anyone has good/bad input on the car as both of us had 1st gens.
Also, what price is a good price say for a 2004 with about 65,000 Kilometres on it sorry not Miles lol. Or would an 02 RT be better for the same value and slightly higher miles?
Thanks for any input.

First, 1st gen vs 2nd gen, since I own both... My 1st gen hasn't had any power window problems but my 2nd gen has a noisy driver's window. 1st gen tends to come with a few more goodies like heated sideview mirrors and lights in window switches, glovebox etc. In the 2nd gen, avoid getting the 2.7 engine. (Sorry, but statistically they have significant problems.) The 2nd gen, to me, is a better-looking vehicle and IMO they fixed some problems that the 1st gen had - my 1st gen has always had a lot of wind noise around the doors but the 2nd gen is very much quieter. 1st gen had A/C problems but 2nd gen seems to have resolved those. 2nd gen has better seats. 2nd gen has at least as much room inside and in the trunk, probably more. 2nd gen has WAY better headlights, far and away than the 1st gen.

I can't give suggestions on prices, and I don't know if the warranty is the same outside the U.S. (it should be) but check if you can buy a 2003 or 2004 that has the balance of the 7 year / 70,000 (mile) warranty remaining on it. If so you might be able to safely skip buying a service contract on the car. I don't think the 2002 came with that warranty and buying a service policy is expen$ive. I bought a 2003 SXT in June and unfortunately the engine turned out to have a mild rod knock, not a common problem in the 3.5 engine. Anyhow the dealer put a Mopar remanufactured engine into the car - a long block, heads and all - for $100 deductible under the warranty. The cost to have it done out of my own pocket would have been $6000 at the very least and possibly a bunch more. When I bought my car I passed on getting the service policy because I knew it had 7000 miles left on the factory warranty - so I saved a bunch of money and still was covered on the engine job. As a bonus, the Mopar - remanufactured engine came with a 3 yr / 36,000 mile parts and labor warranty of its own, so now instead of another 6000 or so miles of warranty on the engine I've got 3/36 on it.

Take your time, check out a number of cars, make sure to buy one that has everything on it you want rather than trying to futz with it later to add stuff to it. Go for an extensive test drive, listen to the engine at all speeds, drive on highway and in-town roads, have a sharp mechanic take a look/listen at the car, and run a Carfax report to make sure you don't buy something that's been through a flood or has been in a major accident.

I think in 03-04 they started decontenting the SXT's. Stuff like no lights in ashtray or glovebox or door courtesy lights. No lighted visor mirrors.

I think 02 was supposed to be the best year for the R/T. Plus I think 03, 04 have a combined computer so no autostick(If you like that) without a miracle

(Indiana - you have convinced me to get the SXT letters from TFC. You and me need to get some tire shine :) )

Yeah, my tire shine is wearing off. Gotta touch that up tomorrow. Re the SXT letters I got them from someone on Ebay. I think it's a nice touch - something the car should really have come with but didn't. I think those letters are the same ones I saw on the back of a new Charger.
