Ran against a Pontiac Bonny for about 1/2 mile from a stop light. Pretty even until I hit 3rd then he was history. I have got to say though that it is a pretty good looking car "in the rear view mirror"!
Considering I've raced 2KWK4U and his GTP a million times (both from a stop and on the highway), I know in fact that this kill was impossible. Either the guy had SSEi badging and didnt have the engine to back it up (guess that would put him up there with the ricers!), or you saw the badging wrong. If it was really an SSEi, the guy wasnt giving it all he had. Don't mean to call other members liars or anything, but I wouldnt want visiters to the board to read something like that without someone questioning it.
The bonniville is bigger than the grand prix right? How much heavier would it be? Could the weight to power ratio be enough to allow an intrepid to beat the SC 3.8?
Bonneville's weigh in at about 3800lbs, definatley not a svelte car.
I am having difficulties believing this one, as we have no idea exactly what model of LH the person drives, and what, if any, modifications have been done to it.
NO intrepid should be able to beat a supercharged bonneville. an extra 200 lbs, ****. if you have subs, amp, box, and a toolkit in your trunk you might lose that 200 lbs advantage right there.
Car and Driver 1/4 times for the ssei was 15.8 mph can,t remmber 0 to 60 times I think 7.7mph I ran my R/T this last weekend at the track and 15.6 no problem. Great kill redblurr I saw a bullitt Mustang run 3 15.8 back to back. If the driver can,t drive so what thats their bad luck.
it would be an easy kill with no supercharger. the 3.8 v6 isn't all that powerful, only 200hp. little more torque that a 3.2 if i'm not mistaken?
anyway, i find those numbers on the bonny hard to believe. **** you can run low 14s in a GTP. the bonny isn't that much heavier, an extra couple hundred lbs can't make the 1/4 speed drop almost 1.5 secs. plus there are lots of mods you can do to this particular engine.
I don't agree with those car and driver numbers either. Both the Regal GS and the Grand Prix GTP run the same 1/4 mile times with that engine (high 14's stock), there is no way 200 extra pounds would take almost a second off the 1/4 mile times. If they are accurate though and if redblurr drives an R/T, that could easily have been a possible kill.
I should have mentioned those numbers for the SSEI were from Pontiac (at least that's what Car and Driver said). I'm not sure if the numbers for the R/T are manufacture's or if that's what Car and Driver measured.
I personally have not taken a GTP or an SSEi, I have given them a run for their money though, even with only a warmed over 1st gen! I have taken Grand Prix's with the 3.4 DOHC motors though, not easy but I got 'em.
My gut feeling is the guy just let it shift through & did'nt try or know how to wind her up. Lets just say the cars are even. My trunk is empty, spare is in the shed, no passengers & I weigh 200. I'll have to go with Spook R/T. Not everyone can drive.
