Every year in early September, the little village of Watkins, IA hosts an Auto Show, with proceeds to benefit a couple of family’s that have experienced the loss of a loved one. I do not know much detail yet, as I haven’t lived there that long… I went last year (part of the show is in my mother’s back yard), and there’s a wide range of classic and modern vehicles shown.

I will post directions and details on date and time, if memory serves me it starts on the 6th this year, but that just doesn’t sound right, to start on a Wednesday…

I will confirm details and post back again, especially if there is any interest.

Watkins is in southern Benton County, 30 minutes west of Cedar Rapids, 5 miles south of Hwy 30.

September 6th is on a Saturday.

Looked online and found this - Fifth annual Watkins Car Show, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, 205 26th Ave., Watkins. Plaques for all entries and two trophies for each class. Entry fee: $5. T-shirts and sandwiches for sale. All proceeds will benefit cancer patient Chris Dusil and former Watkins resident Robert Swehla, Palo, who suffered loss in the summer flood.

I cant remember my schedule at work right now.

heh, thanks Nick.

Show me up, will ya! *grins* Yea, Saturday the 6th make's sense... August 6th was Wednesday. I need more sleep I think.

Anyway, There was what I thought to be a HUGE turn out of cars being shown. It draws cars from quite a distance, and a wide range of hotrods, restorations, and daily drivers.

The one that I keep thinking of is the 1967-1972 body style Chevy Pickup truck with a PTO powered Holms 440 boom wrecker, custom wheel lift, and custom dual tandoms in the rear. The transfer case was set up to power just one rear axle in 2 wheel drive, but shifting the transfer case in to '4 wheel drive' would shift the truck into '6 wheel drive'!

I will not be show ready then... but I'll be stopping down to see who rolls into town!

I think I'm game for that... I'll double check the schedule... I've got pleanty of parking, that's for sure. Even though I live ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN from the show, it's only 2 blocks.

I already committed to a car show in North Liberty on that day... I heard this show in Watkins is a really nice venue and getting larger every year. And it's for a great cause.

I have a soccer game for my son that morning, should be done and free after lunch. Which works out well as all cars must be regestered by 2:30... I'm game to shoot for something in the early afteroon, 2:30 or later?

I'd love to attend but I'm spending that weekend in Davenport, tickets and hotel already reserved. My home town, Vinton, does their cruise every year, sounds very similar to the show in Watkins. Wish I could come but hope you guys have fun too!

From Jamie... "not 100% sure because it gets bigger and bigger every year but we had 167 cars last year with a really nice day... year before it was 135 and it rained"

So, my count was low! I'm bad at that kind of estimating.
Hehhehehehe
