Well folks..I really wanted to own a Dodge Intrepid. I've been taking good care of it-using mobile 1 synthetic, keeping all my receipts, car washed & waxed etc. On Thursday, I got rearended pretty hard on the 101 in Scottsdale. I'm ok, but my car looks pretty bad. I was wondering if anyone could take a look at these pictures and let me know if it is likely my car will be totaled, or if it will be fixed.

Pictures of rear end damage.

Well..............the bumper, trunk and tail lights can be replaced easily................the other metal damage (rear upper quarter panels) are the concern I have..............because of those being kinda destroyed...........I think the car might be totalled.

There are several factors to consider such as alignment, etc. Not having a frame, unibodys get twisted up fairly easily and never are the same after that. There may be a whole lot of hidden damage both mechanical and electrical that can lead to problems down the road.
Have a reputible collision shop do a complete and thorough estimate for you, even if it costs a few bucks. You are in no way obligated to have the other person's insurance take it to "their" shop, no matter how much they insist that you have to. Keep in mind, insurance companys are in business to make money, not necessarily to please you.
Crying shame. Looks like you took very good care of it...

Thanks for the replies so far...

Iceshaver...Yes, the back window is shatterred. Every time I close the door, I think the whole thing will fall through...There is already plenty of glass in the back seat.

Ouch! :mg: Damn, that had to hurt. I agree with everyone else; looks like it's a totalled. The labor to fix something like that (assuming the frame is still straight) will be ridiculous.

Glad to hear that you're okay though. :)

Looks like I'll be in the market for a new car probably.

About the accident being painful, believe it or not it wasn't that bad. In fact, the accident happened on Thursday, and this morning I was in good enough shape to pass a strenous police physical agility test. Anyways, my back is kinda stiff, but my neck wasn't hurt at all which is suprising. Also, the other people involved in the accident in the cars that hit me weren't hurt either. I guess we got away pretty lucky. Anyone who knows anything about the 101 in Scottsdale can appreciate that-people die in alarming rates on that freeway.

Anyone have any advice on a comparable car to an Intrepid? I'm gonna avoid buying another one because I felt that the build quality was pretty low. I'm thinking a Grand Prix or Eclipse or something..Who knows.

I'll take a unibody car that will total over a rather small accident over an old body on frame car that might just need some 1/4 panel straightening anyday. Good thing for crumple zones. Its good even for insurance companies too, because its cheaper to replace a car rather than pay for a persons problems or even life.

Glad your ok. But that car is totaled. Heck they total some cars if both airbags go off.

Ouch man like they said looks totalled, unfortunate and with the way labor charges have gotten higher and everything.. along with your unibody like IceShaver says if it broke the back window unlikey that the thing will be repairable:(

OR this could be a calling, considering it's only 2 years old...
