Well I guess this could have gone in car audio, but it doesn't only apply to car audio. anyways, is there anyway to play a burned cd in a unit that does not play cd-r's? Sounds stupid, but I figure they have ways around everything else so maybe I just don't know about this one.

Thanks.

Well, since CD-R's are burned CD's I think you answered your own question. Sometimes it's just the media that is incompatible, though. Try CD's written to different brands, if possible. I've seen units that were "supposed" to not play CD-R, that would play 1 to 1 ISO copies, but not compilations, also. Sometimes it's the media, sometimes the burn. Sometimes the thing just won't play CD-R.

Thanks, will try. I know an ISO is an image file, but how do you burn an mp3 as an image and not a comp.? That may not have been what you told me to do, but it sure is the way I interpreted what you said :).

Edit: Oh ok, are you talking about making a complete copy of the original CD?

Yeah, complete 1 to 1 copy from original or ISO, rather than converting wav or MP3 to CD Audio. Lots of Flac or Ape lossless files have a cue to retain the original disc structure also.

The brands Josiah mentioned are both excellent choices. I use Maxells almost exclusively for music, but if there is a deal on TDK's that's fine too. Of course all your moder head units are from from picky, and will play mp3's wma's raw wav and cd on just about any old crappy media.

Is this a stock type HU with a single slot CD player? I ask because my R/T came with a 4 disc changer and it played ISO copies on some really cheap no-name media. I have a 6 disc changer in there now and it plays the same cheap media. I heard the 4 disc changers were pretty fussy about the media..but I haven't run into that problem.
I've also heard that some stock HU won't play any CD-R and other models are pretty fussy about the media used. I've got a fe different models of stock single disc HU that I'll check in the future.

It is a 1996 Pioneer HU, one that fits with no mounting brackets required. Thanks to Razman who gave me the HU. :)

Edit: Yes it is a single slot.

That's ok, I should have specified it was an aftermarket unit. I always seem to leave some information out when posting.
