Anyways, I've been looking at the Motorola Razr for a bit now. But I can't get over the price. So I'm looking at an MPX220 Smart Phone now......cheap because everyone is obsessed with the Razr.

Any suggestions? I plan on going pay as you go, so I'm not interested in getting locked into a contract for a cheaper phone.

If you are gettign pay as you go, a cheap crap phone should be the best option. Otherwise it is like renting a limo, you look cool...until your time runs out.

The RAZR is cool, but overhyped. The only reason I have one is so it fits in my suits well. I'm buying a new phone in about 2 weeks (Nokia 6682). I recommend a cheap nokia as they seem to be the best deals for a decent phone. The MpX220 is alright, but it is a bit bulky to carry in a pocket. I would keep shopping. What are your other options?

I would wait for Christmas specials. I kinda wish I waited for the CDMA Razr (Bell should have it next year), but the e815 I picked up 3 or 4 weeks ago is just too practical (MP3 player, 1.3mg pxl camera, bluetooth, long lasting battery), and my contract was near up anyways.

Whatever you do, don't go Telus. They're HORRIBLY expensive. Stay with Rogers or Bell.

e815??? Where do I find that? This is my only means of communications, I'm not gonna go for crap, I already have one sitting at home if I wanted to do that.

I am planning on switching to Rogers and going pay as you go as it works out cheaper than a plan. ($15/month cheaper approx)

...I just looked at the Bell pay as you go charges........I don't like them as I make short calls. Definetely want to go to Rogers.

The Motorola e815 is a bell phone. I also use my cell phone as my only means of communication (student housing usually means no lan-line) but since I got my phone (about 3-4 weeks ago), I've racked up about 1500 minutes of talking (and I'm still under my 200 daytime minutes :D) so a pay-as-you-go wouldn't work for me.

Have you compared Bell and Rogers pay as you go? or do you prefer Rogers because of the available phones?

i'm happy with my MPX220....does everything I got it for, and is still pretty small. I sync it with Outlook, and have a 1GB miniSD card so I can use it as my MP3 player. I used to carry a cell phone and a PocketPC, but now I just carry the Smartphone.

I like the size of the RAZR, but don;t like it because it has a built in camera/video, mp3 player, etc....but not very much memory, and no way to add more! Kinda retarded if you ask me.

The mpx is too bulky and thick for me, plus I don't like the windows OS. The RAZR sucks for an only phone, but it does its job of not showing in my pocket while I am in a suit well.

Are there any GSM carriers you could look into? Not sure how the Canada coverage is but my GSM phones sound clearer that my CDMA ones ever did (though CDMA has a better coverage area). Plus you could switch between phones daily like I do.

I hope I'm not threadjacking, but how good of a phone is the e815? Versus the V276? I like the way the V267 looks (black on silver), and I can get it for free when my plan turns over next week, but it doesn't have the features that the e815 has. Also, how are the chargers on Moto's? My sister told me the prongs are prone to breaking off. I do have a back-up, and that is getting the same phone as my sister, the LG VX8100, which is, to her, a fantastic phone. I just don't know if I can get same deal she did.

No, you're not hijacking, I'd love to hear what people have to say about different phones.

I ended up buying a used Razr sorta locally.

The razr has come down quite a bit in price. I paid $500 for one last year about this time. And that was the discounted price with a two year sign up. I think the street price was $700. Anyway I got one off ebay last month (for my wife) for less than 300.

The reason I got it off Ebay was to get one that was unlocked. That way when we are in Singapore next month I can buy a local simm with a pre-paid plan. Better than paying $2 a minute through Cingular!

I am kinda weary about the charger for the e815 because I've had problems with it twice in the last month or so. When I plug the charger in, the phone will simply shut-off and start going haywire.

Personally, I would have loved to get a CDMA RAZR, but it doesn't have all the features of the e815, and it won't be out until next year (I needed a phone A.S.A.P.)

BTW, Bell is coming out with the "World Phone" (a motorola phone) with GSM capabilities disabled for North America. Althought I've only been to europe about twice in the last 3 years or so, it would still be nice to have.

See my post you wouldn't want to pay the rate anyway. Better off just renting a phone while you are there.

You can get a black one online (not ebay) for $250ish. Unlocked

I hated my silver one, it got so scratched so fast. Black is where it's at.

I'm sure bell will have some package deal or something available. Plus europe rates may automatically be a bit cheaper

Most likely not, TMobile is cheap for a US carrier in Europe at .99 a minute. It is much cheaper to get a phone there. I got a prepaid in Spain (you have to be a resident to get a monthly rate),a dn was paying ~5 cents a minute in spain, and ~20 cents a minute to the US with free incoming. Unless your company pays for it, international calling is unreasonably expensive.

I got a silver one...unlocked, $200. *waits for shipment*

Rogers has the best pay as you go rates, if Bell had better rates, I would've gone with a E815 I suppose.

Anyways.....$20/month + tax ($23/month) gets me $0.31/min daytime and $0.04/min evening/weekend. All calling features are included. I'm gonna use $5 out of that $20/month to get my evening hours started at 6PM.

$15 @ $0.04/min lasts a long time. 300+ mins/month. Cheapest plan rate I can get is $10 more and I get 100 mins less and NO calling features.

Well, with the world phone from bell, at least you'll be likely that you can use it pre-paid (this is a big thing for bell, because they are a CDMA provider, and if I'm not mistaken, europe is GSM)

Yeah, but my guess (not for sure) is taht they will have a system liek nextel has in the US (1 world phone, $2 a minute). It would have to be completely unlocked to work worldwide....which I doubt...but AI oculd be wroing

Wow am I drunk
