Hey thats a bummer. But really we don't need to hear how upset you are about it if you cannot express it in a way that everyone can understand. Just because you like cars doesn't mean you have to curse like a wrenchhead.

Thank god you cant hear me talk, nearly every word I say is **** or *****, and even the `c` word <Bites fingers> more when I drive though, having 2 Ph.d`s I imagine kills the theory that if you swear alot your an idiot... just food for thought :)

Having a Ph.d does not meanb that you are not an idiot. I have had a few professors in school with Ph.d's that are dumber than a brick. Not saying it applies to you, but just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Oh by the way I do not see why you can not express yourself without cursing. I can say that I rarely if ever curse. Especially when typing because it can't "just slip" at theat point.

isn't cursing just another word? Curses go by generation. I don't understand why a word can be good or bad. saying "Damn" was a sin 100 years ago. now it is just common to express misfortune with a "Damn".

I just don't understand why cursing is such a big deal.

I don't agree that you can be an idiot and have a Ph.d. I belive that you can be static and un-creative and do very well in schooling and testing, as the current methods of aquiring knoledge reward the people who don't think 'outside-the-box'. Personally I feel that monitoring what I say wastes to much time conveying my opinion. If I have to re-think everything I want to say, I would feel like communicating is a waste of time. So I say a cuss-word. maybe I don't.

If I express myself without cursing, does that mean I am a better person? Do we judge people by their intent or by what is done?

I think we all express our anger in different ways, mine usually is an array of colorful swearing metaphors.. But its usaully directed to a person who only understands that form of expression.. With the many facets of personality you must inturn have many facets of reactions and understanding of those personailities to be able to communicate effectively... This whole premise is intrinsic to a good communicator..

With all that in mind I still swear perfusely... :)

The commandment states that you shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain. So why is ****, ****, *****, etc a curse word! It's not taking the Lord's name in vain! Unless God wants to be know as a bowl movement, or maybe a female dog, or an act of procreation. :D

Beside, I'd never say **** like that! (yeah right) :D

I'd be the first to admit that my use of language changes according to the 'crowd' that I'm currently conversing with. My wife's family is starch old-english (no offense to overseas members) who are very nose-uppity to everyone. I speak in a language that my close friends look at me like "who is this guy!" The one thing that turns me on language use is from a female. If I hear a female spouting F, S, Ass, ect... I usually won't give her a second look compared to a well spoken woman. Maybe I'm a chauvenist (poss spelling oops) but that's me.

And my two ****in cents asshole! Dammit!

By harder jobs, do you mean the wonderful act of pulling a motor, rebuilding it, and reinstalling it, then having the timing belt jump. So you have to pull all the elements off the front of the motor and re-adjust the position of the timing belt. Or would it be the basic, brake, or front end parts orsuspension or exhaust or leaky spark plugs tubes on the 3.5. Or was there something that went a little more difficult than that. Because if those included the difficult jobs, I still see no reason to swear, curse, or whatever you would so desire to call the misappropriate use of words. Oh yeah I work as a mechanic part-time and then I am a supervisor in a place where the average person wants to gouge his nose off, poke his eyes out, or do any other damage they can do to themselves because they don't know any better. Then I get to go home to an empty house because my fiance left me 5 weeks before our wedding. So is it the stress that causes the language? I don't understand.

OK - now I just gotta jump in. No flame here, just my $.02 If a person can't think of a word, or is too lazy, then a vulgar word is usually inserted in it's place. There is however a certain time that a well placed %@*&?^ can't be replaced with anything else.

We all have our own vocabulary. That freedom of speech thing is still prevelant. It's also part of the modern society (don't even say "hell" around my grand parents :)). If your one to be offended by the use of "vulgar language", please get over it. After all, what is the definition of "vulgar"? We all have our own definition. Well, I suppose if someone called you personally an "asshole", than you would have a right to be offended. :)
