Hi everyone, I just thought I would tell everyone about my experience yesterday. I took my roomate to work on my Intrepid and on the way home the check engine light came on and stayed on! I did the key on key off thing and it came up as a bad 02 sensor, so I took it to the dealer to have it replaced, and they charged 167.00 for this porcedure, next time I think I'll find my wrenches and do it myself, although the one that went bad (and there are four!!)was pretty hard to get to so Im glad I let them handle it. This is the second time my check engine light has came on, the first time was a EGR valve or sensor, I cant remember which. just thought Id share....

Does anyone think that 02 sensors should be replaced as a preventative maintenance item rather than wait for the check engine light? I have 124,000 miles and have never had a o2 sensor go. The car does have rough idle, but I do realize this could be from numerous things.

mopar,

O2 sensors are a bit expensive (and a little tedious to replace). I wouldn't replace them as a 'preventative maintenance' item, however, if you are experiencing a rough idle, with 124k, you can't go wrong with replacing them (the '97 3.5L has THREE of them, YIKES).
