Here's what I wrote to this person in an email:

Hello,

I would just like to say that your experience with Chrysler products and
Chrysler dealers is not typical. I have owned two Intrepid's (95 and
currently a 2000) and both have proven themselves as well-built and reliable
cars. The dealer I bought my 2000 Chrysler Intrepid from (mine was
originally built for sale in Canada) has been courteous, straight-forward,
and pleasant to work with.

I can see no valid point or conclusion based on the experience you described
other than you got a lemon. What you should know, however, is that there
are horror stories like yours from people who've owned Ford products, GM
products, and other auto manufacturers. You should point that out on your
website, because there are far more people who are happy with their Chrysler
product than it would seem, based on the lop-sided opinions and comments on
your website.

And, for the record, my 95 Intrepid was traded in to the dealer after I ran
it up to 178,000 miles. There was never any transmission work done on it
except regular fluid/filter changes (using the RIGHT fluid, of course), and
the car ran great when I turned it in.

What people commonly don't know or misreport in horror stories like yours is
what type of transmission fluid they put in it before they experienced these
problems and if they tried putting in the recommended 7176 ATF3+ fluid.
Some people take their car to any old oil change place, have the tranny
fluid flushed, and don't pay any attention to what type of fluid the guy
puts in, and then blame Chrysler.

I don't know if you realize this or not but the "Yet Even More Chrysler
Stories" link leads people to a page with Chrysler horror stories, but, if
they click on the home page, and pick the Ford or GM page, there are just as
many complaints! Conclusion: BE FAIR TO CHRYSLER OR ***** ABOUT ALL OF THE
AUTO MANUFACTURERS.......CHRYSLER IS NOT THE ONLY CAR COMPANY THAT MAKES
LEMONS.

I'm sorry for the shouting, but people like you really make me mad when you
place blame improperly.

Oh, and by the way, I plan on continuing to buy Chrysler products. Your
website and the stories of idiots who don't put the right tranny fluid in
has not changed my mind whatsoever about Chrysler.

Regards,
Mark Ustby

It just proves that some people are stupid.. and choose to blame their stupidity on other people or other companies. It's too bad that he got a lemon, but if he thinks he's less likely to get a lemon at a GM, Ford, or any other dealer for any other manufacturer, he'd better think again.

That and obviously his dealership was just being a biatch about the whole issue.

I've taken my car into Chuck Van Horn Dodge in Plymouth about 3 times in the last 4 years. First time was to replace the timing belt (was not broken but the car was high mileage after I bought it in 98). The second time was in December of 2000 to have new struts and shocks put on it. And the third time was this past June when I simply needed to have valve cover gaskets replaced (they also found the passenger side head gasket was blown). After every time I picked up my car it was clean, no greasy hand prints anywhere, and it was tons of fun hittin' on their cashier girl.

I can't totally pass blame to the guy who's story we read above. Like I said, I think it's mostly the dealer's fault because they are the ones taking your money.

Hitting on their cashier girl? hehehe.... that's very naughty of you, ATFCharger.. :p

I've never been to Chuck Van Horn in Plymouth... probably because I don't live there. :)

Personaly, I don't know why he bought that car anyway knowing it had been wrecked..and lease it, at that....... I'm sure there was something that raised a flag while on a test drive.... Anyway whatever went wrong, Should have been handled more professionally by the dodge dealership. Also don't think this kind of shi& happen to D/C cars only. B/C I've heard even worst stories about cars other than dodge........... I like my Intrepid, and until other wise I'll keep on liking them.

Exactly, 01Intrepid. That complaint page he points people to has listings for GM, Ford, and VW cars. I guess he didn't want people to see that part of it.

I don't disagree with 00chryslerintrepids comments that all manufacturers make lemons. However, statistically, american manufacturers have much higher recall rates than that of their foreign counterparts. My Intrepid has also been a complete lemon. I do blame Chrysler for building lemons because they should have tighter quality control. Also, if a lemon should happen to pass through their QC department then the dealership should recognize that the customer has been shafted and help them in any way possible. Its when they fail to do this (as was this guys case with Ontario Chrysler) than he has every right to be pissed just as I am sure you would if it happened to you. "Don't believe everything you read" and this is especially truthfull on the internet and it is obvious that this person's web site will be biased. He was screwed!

I believe it's the parts that are bad, not how the car is put together... to a certain extent...

My buddy hit on the cashier girl when we were lot attendants at Russ Darrow Chrysler / Plymouth in Waukesha. He is marrying her in August. So, you never know. ;)

I bought my car as a prior salvage. I thought it looked a bit nice for a prior salvage car, obviously (that is IF they had to switch/fix the motor) they slacked in other areas.

I don't know about the shaking.. that doesn't seem normal but my transmission is a little jumpy at slow speeds... it's called shifting into first gear... When it does that you get a surge of power because the gear is so low so it seems jumpy. I think the transmissions in these cars stink but I agree with the dealer this is normal.

Definitely a bad dealer... for selling a lemon. However, do any of us really think that this is typical of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers? Or that dealers for other makes are not so shady? I highly doubt it.

All dealers are out to make money.. that's a given. Some just don't realize that they make more money by NOT screwing over their customers.

Is this guy tied to that dealer because he leased it through them? I guess that would be a reason not to lease a car.

I got my best deal from a dealership that is 30 miles from my home. I doubt that I would ever bring my car there for service. I like the fact that under warranty you can bring it to any Dodge dealer... actually last time in I brought it to a Chrysler dealer

DC finally stepped up and paid for the repair cost on my lemon Intrepid. The last person in customer service that I was dealing with was great(the first 2 people seemed not to of cared at all). The dealer was helpfull throughout my nightmare. If DC could improve the staff in customer service it would go a long way to improving customer relations(DC these are key people that deterine if a customer is going to buy another Chrysler). I'm glad my car is gone(feel sorry for whoever bought it), next time I may consider another DC product if the styling stays great(the next LX car will be the first car/truck the DC has done on there own without Lutz or Gail).

I am the guy who created that web page that 00ChryslerIntrepid has pointed out at the top of this thread. Yes he wrote me an e-mail and I guess he feels that he can have his opinion but no-one else should. 00ChryslerIntrepid , if you could read you would have seen that the transmission acted like **** from the day of delivery. I did not put the WRONG fluid in as you suggest. Why don't you talk when you know what you're talking about. Yes you have had good luck with your car, and hey good for you. But some of us have not been so lucky. And we are entitled to voice our opinions just as you are about your good fortune. I don't have to ***** about other car makers, they did not sell me a hunk of junk and then refuse to stand behind it. If they had I would have reason to include them on my website. You can call me an idiot, but only for buying a Chrysler Product. As for being stupid, have you ever heard the phrase, people in glass houses should not throw stones? Your day will come and then we'll see what you think of your buddies at Chrysler.

You gotta feel sorry for this guy though. I'd hate it if my Intrepid crapped out and the dealership gave me the shaft. The dealership here has been more than great to me even though I didn't even buy the car from them. Last time I had a problem, they didn't have time to fix my car right away cause I had to go out of town, so they sent the possible parts that I might need with me to a local tranny shop without charging me. They said to me, "Use what you need and bring the rest back. We'll just charge you for the parts you use."

I mean, can't ask for more than that. Not only did they find someone to fix my car for me right away, they even supplied the parts without charging upfront. It ended up costing me less in the long run too!!

But I think it would be awesome to see him drive around in a car with that back windshield sticker that he plans on getting. I think it said something like "I bought this lemon and Ontario Chrysler".

This guy is a moron. Look at his complaints. Scratches that the car had when he picked it up? Give me a break! Anyone that devotes a web site to his paltry problems most likely deserves the treatment he gets at the dealer. Obviously, I have no simpathy, and am reasonably certain that he has never owned a car before this one. If he did, he would know that all cars come with their own share of problems.

Get a life!!

"People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" Yes that is very true. I, however, am not the stupid one here.

While it would make me mad if I received a lemon-scented car, I wouldn't be so naive to think that there is an automobile maker who is so perfect as to not make a lemon.

It is unfortunate that you have had all of these alleged problems, jsconte... but just as important as your misfortune is the success of many others... not just with Chrysler products, but with all makes.

If you look at the big picture, Chrysler is really no worse or better off than other makes. While it may be difficult for you to look at the big picture given your situation, you must realize that it is there... and just as relevant and important as your particular story.

Don't let 00ChryslerIntrepid bother you... he always blames the owner never the car maker... In his mind Chrysler has never done anything wrong or ever ever made any kind of mistake. The Dodge Intrepid is 100% perfect... the flowing lines ahhhh so wonderful. If you have any problem it's your fault. You either put the wrong fluid or your not driving it right ... blah blah blah...

The transmissions in these cars SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Chrysler had problems with these transmissions since the early 90's... Answer to that was to shorten the warranty period on the transmission.
