Hey guys, I nee your help!!

I am in the process of swapping a 3.2L into a broken 2.7L car (I have a thread going on about my progress). I should be getting ready to fire it up in a few days. BUT before I get there, I need to find the right computer for my car.

I currently have the 3.2L computer that came out of the same car that the engine came out of. They were not able to tell me any details like Sentry system over the phone. When I went to go pull the wiring harness I noticed the dash-LED and an autostick... which my car doesn't have. Since the steering column is all torn out, I cannot get the ignition to it.

I have two options (let me know if there are more):
1) Get a Sentry ignition / steering column, install into my Intrepid, and get it programmed at the dealer
2) Get a computer that isn't preprogrammed for the Sentry system

I prefer to go with #2 if possible. The problem is that the junkyards have the ECM sitting on the shelf without the car there. They cannot tell me if it from a car with Sentry. The dealership is of almost no help. The VIN number from the car will tell them if the car has certain stuff, but not Sentry system (still trying to pick their brains tho). They said when they replace a computer, they order the same part number that is already in the car....

SO WHAT AM I ASKING FROM YOU???...

I would really appreciate it if you guys with a 2nd gen Trep (preferably 99) with no Sentry system will get the part number off the computer for me. The computer is located by the coolant reservoir, cruise control solenoid, engine fuse box (on driver's side engine bay). The cover is made of metal. There should be a part number sticker on it somewhere you can get w/o too much difficulty.

I would like Car model, Part #, and whether it has autostick

I would really appreciate it, as well as others in the future that do swaps like this. (it may be you!!)

Sorry for the long email... just want to be clear and specific. Thanks.:D

thanks Guess for offering but that is what i have now (2.7L with no Sentry or autostick).

i need a part number for a 3.2L with no Sentry... i don't have autostick in my car but if the computer is programmed for autostick, it should still be compatible with mine (just won't use that part of the software).

Thank again.

the only thing I can offer you is the part no for a 3.5 with no sentry key w/ autostick.

(maybe there's a something similar in the part no)

edit: in order to get the part # you have to remove the cruise servo (3 10MM bolts), the TCM (2 10MM bolts), the windshield washer filler (1 10MM bolts) and then you can get the PCM (4 8MM bolts).

The reason the dealer can't tell if it has sentry or not is because it can be enabled or disabled, meaning every controller has sentry capability. The autostick on 98-2001 is seperate, it works within the tranny controller, it doesn't matter what engine controller you have. I think Randy or Rob with the turbo both have 3.2s.
Dbaudiopro or someone that installs alarms might be able to help with bypassing the sentry. To add sentry you need the smart key module from around the lock cylinder on the steering column (see if the donor car still has it) and the body controller to match. If you have two components (PCM, BCM, or Sentry module) already programmed you can add one, but if you're changing more the one you need a pin # to access the sentry system for programming. If the donor does have sentry and you do get the other two components you'll also need the key from it or the dealer will have to program it. Naturally the key won't turn your ignition switch so you just hold the head of the sentry key from the donor on top of your key until you can get a new key programmed.
The best thing to do is check the donor for the smart key module, it's black and bolted to the steering column with a ring that goes around the lock cylinder.
Or just get a another PCM without sentry enabled.

Thank you all fo the help.... thanks polpolzx for going thru the trouble to get the numbers.
The dealer said they cannot disable that function.... but then again, most of them talk to you like you're bothering them anyway.
YB... I'd rather go with a computer w/o Sentry in order to find the other compnents. The donor car (actually barely half a car) did not have the parts. If push comes to shove, I'll have to go that yroute I guess.

Thanks again.

If someone posts a part # for the 3.2 I can check the wrecking yard tomorrow. I was there today and saw a 99 PCM and TCM, I didn't ask the price though. They also had a 4 disk cd changer and a radio with cd.

I THINK I JUST FOUND A COMPUTER that will be compatible with my car. I finally found a dealership that was willing to check out the VIN number. They actually could print out all the options on that vehicle... including Sentry key system, autostick, etc. So it seems to me that all the others just didn't want to do the extra work by looking up the VIN.

I will post the part number here after I pick it up. That way, if anyone else is going to do this swap, it'll be easier to find an ECM... without physically trying to find the vehicle and without getting the VIN number and trying to find a friendly eoungh parts guy ant the dealer.

Thanks to the few that helped out... but i do realize now that the number wasn't in plain view.

YB... let me know where this junkyard is. I may be interested in the CD radio/changer!!
