And by illumination I mean that weird light that lights up the PRND3L on the floor to see at night. I think it has some kind of ballast on it.
My instrument cluster bulbs were just 194 bulbs I changed already. But this silly electro luminescient thing has me stumped. How do you fix it? Did anyone over the last 25 years figure it out?Yes - I believe it is EL (electroluminescent), just like some (not all) of the LH instrument clusters. The high voltage modules sometimes fail.
The unit is plastic welded to the panel. I could melt the plastic. I wish there was a way to fix it. It is so nice to have it working correctly.Never had to deal with it, but I think there were some threads in which it was discussed. I think its all built into the shifter bezel. Replace the bezel or cannibalize the EL module (might be one piece with the module and lights?) from another shifter bezel if you can't find the right color bezel.
Personally, I’m not sure. Your best bet might just be to find a new panel or EL to replace it with. Maybe it can be fixed who knows, but I think the chances of it needing to be replaced is pretty high in my opinion. My instrument cluster bulbs were just 194 bulbs I changed already.
