im curious what the correct steps are to paint my plastic parts inside the car?
#'s of grits e.g; 240, 180, 90, etc.
primer,
correct type of paint e.g; Krylon
how many times to sand. blah blah blah

is there a how in a different website that can be weblinked?

it's been discussed a ton of times on here...

I'd suggest 1000 grit paper (other grits will leave scratches the paint cannot fill), adhesion promoter (primer is not necessary, but adhesion promotoer will help on the flexible plastic pieces), then a paint that is designed for plastic.

when i did mine i didnt sand nothin, just clean it real good.

what Pat (gaze) said is the totally correct method to do it, but I have had good success (as in: all the caps in my engine, including fusebox cover) with just cleaning with rubbing alcohol/windex and then using krylon fusion

however, if i was going to do any sort of flexible plastic/vinyl then I would do it with the primer

Instructions for those that are not going to follow the correct procedure, or use the correct paint.

Step 1: Pick up paint.
Step 2: Place into trash can.
Step 3 : Be glad you didn't make your interior a uneven sticky peeling dust adhesive finger printed mess and significantly reduce the resell ability and value of your car.
Step 4: Beer, in celebration.

i did a friends 5.0 took all his stuff to my godfathers Body shop and used 1000grit sand paper and wet sanded it then painted it and clear coted it twice and baked it to dry and looks like a pro did it

I agree with not painting the interior. I painted mine and It came out even with no real visible flaws, but it still looks painted.

i painted mine and it turned out better then i'd hoped, and i didnt sand any of it, and it dosnt look painted. if your gonna do it dont buy cheap paint, spend the extra money on krylon plastic paint and just wash your parts with soap and water then wipe them down real good with 91% rubbing alcahol.

Whiteyfromchat painted my center councel and my side and rear interior pillars. Turned out really great. Though he did go to the book and found the paint codes and then he used a paint gun. You can check his work in my sig thread. you can sort of see how the center councel was finished in the pic below.

1) Buy krylon spray paint and a mr clean magic eraser.
2) Take the parts off and out of your car, lay down newspaper somewhere.
3) Clean your plastic parts thoroughly!!!! Must get all the dirt grease oils etc off so that the paint does not run and look crappy.
4) Evenly paint (2-4 coats?).
5) You must let it dry.

Mine came out very even, almost perfect. If you're going to do the plastic around the shifter, you can use vaseline in the little holes that say P R D etc and then use a q-tip after to get it out. I've got pics of my interior on my pages.
