Sounds like you need a new cam sensor.

when you say 'miss' is the engine falling on its ass like your face is going to hit the steering wheel. or can it get above 2500? at all? 2600? 2650? etc? the PCM is strict on the cam/crank sensors and willnot go above 2500 if the cam sensor is bad, broken/disconnected.

if its not either as described above but more a lack of power, id look at the fuel delivery, (injectors)/wires check spark plugs, and its a time consuming process but losen the cats to see if the converter is plugged. i had a plugged cat on a PT cruiser i bought and flipped and it was a PITA to diagnose.
are you getting any codes? a crank or cam sensor should throw a code, do you know how to do the key jiggle?
