My CD changer died today :( It's not a factory, and it is 4 years old now (kept it from my previolus car). It's a 12-disc Pioneer.

Anyways, I was listening to a CD and went to change to another disc, and I got an error. When I looked in my trunk, the CD was still slid out in the read position, and I couldn't get any part to move. I can't even get the cartridge out :(

Any ideas?

Newer Pioneer changers have a special 8 or maybe 6 pin connection that plugs into the back of the changer from the head unit. Inside the changer that pin is solder to a small circuit board. Over time the soldered connection may have loosen due to vibrations. The changer is very easy to go inside of and inspect, once you go inside you can wiggle the connector to see if the pins are loose (they will move a little on the other side of the board) if so just simply resolder the connection. Hade the problem with my six disc mounted in the console. Thats how I fixed it.

My dad opened it up today to get the CD's out. While he was in there, he just cleaned it out and it started working again; for now.

It is getting old, so it may not last much longer anyways.

Was the error E-60? I've got a 12 disc Pioneer changer and I keep getting that error. And it keeps "losing" discs, meaning I'll have 12, then it will act as if there are only 10, then 6, and so on. I was down to 3 last night. I guess I should get it cleaned...

I was getting E-70. Which I think is categorized with E-60 in the manual. My dad also thinks there is probably a mechanical problem with mine, so we'll see if it happens again :(

Manual... I don't know him... ;) Mine was a display model that I got for half price, so I didn't get any docs. Oh well. I'm waiting to get a new one anyway. Sony... with the Active Panel... mmm...

I've got a Sony 10 Disc changer in my trunk...It's been through 3 cars (first my F-150, then my S-10 now my Intrepid) it's going on 5 years old and no problems...

I probably should not have said that, because it will probably take a crap now.
