Ok, well.... I dont have pics yet... but I will when i get home from work today. [4pm, Pacific time].

Well, Guys, My Intrepid is gone, totalled, no longer rolls, etc. It sucks.
What happened is I had stayed up all night new years eve. because i had work the next morning at 6:45 am. I arranged to get off early, so I could go home and sleep.... well... didnt work. I was out of it [im not sure i fell asleep.. jus slow response time] and the road was a tinsy bit slick. I lost it around a curve [freeway interchange] and ran up the dirt hill on the outside of the curve, and into a retaining wall about 50 yards later.

Well... the payoff for the loan is a little under $7k... Im pretty sure ill get it from the insurance for total loss check... hopefully a lil extra [tho I dunno, kause theres a $500 deductable] So, I'm lucky, I can break even.

Now... my payments were $250/month with a 4 year loan. [at the time i got the car i had no credit, and my dad co-signed... but still got like 18 or 20 apr]
If I stick with the same or less payments... and another 4 year plan... I can probably afford about $10k this time around.

So, any suggestions on what to get? Im seriously thinking another intrepid... but i cant seem to find any 3.2L 2nd gens in that range around here [SF bay area... everythings inflated]
My criteria is, something as fast as my 1st gen 3.5, or faster, and not a tin can [mid size or up] Oh, and I do commute about 20 miles each way to work... so it cant guzzle gas [yea the thought of finding a nice 60's / 70's muscle car crossed my mind.. but i dont think so]

Mabey I should find another 1st gen? ES mabey? that might be cool! but starting all over with mods! yuck!....

Oh yea... as for the title of the post... ill post pics later today... be warned tho....

Ahhh **** man... sorry to hear that. Good thing you are OK. But hell yeah... go for a 2nd gen. Too bad you arent out here in NYC. There are tons of Intrepids here. I even saw an inferno red R/T and a slate blue one on my way to work today.

I know when I was in SF i didnt see many Intrepids at all. In fact the only one I saw was a cab. :-(

Keep looking man... im sure you will find one.

Good luck with the insurance.

Dam that is awful, can you pull anything off the car to save for another 1st gen, or is it gone already. Too bad you are not on the east coast. Check out the Intrepid listed in the cars for sale section of theis link:Johns Hopkins Gazette. I found my car at Autotrader.com, there are plenty of clean 1st gen cars here in California. I hope the insurance pays for everything. I was looking forward to seeing your car in April at the Spring Fling.

Sorry about the mishap....Good to hear you are okay , were you not hurt at all?? If not, that speaks well for the car holding up !
you are right...a second gen would be real cool.
Best of luck

Hehe... yea... the cops couldnt figure out
how I had walked away! All that happened
was a lil scratch on my wrist... and a
bruise on my knee. So, yea I was lucky...
If I was in a different car... I might still
be in the hospital! So.. yea... im ok!
[other than the fact that i lost my trep!!]

It sucks kause I would have had it for a year this week!!

Im thinking about trying to find an older
trep for $4k or less, that I can buy cash...
so I can [1] own it from the start, and
[2] pump cash into mods instead of car
payments! I dont think ill buy a 1st gen
for over $6k, so that I can do mods.

If i find a 2nd gen.. that would be cool...
then id be ok with spending 10k...

but hey... does anyone have any other
suggestions for me?? kmon... my only
cryteria is that it be as fast or faster
than my trep and not a tin can.... for about $10k or less.

Nothing wrong with private party sales, just tell the guy you want to have the car checked out first, most Banks or Credit Unions will sell you an extended warranty when you finance the car. And private parties are usually more willing to come down on the price notice he said OBO after 6990, I would offer 5500 and meet him at 6000

Yea the other thing that apeals to me about
doing something like that... is my payments
would be alot less [thinking under $200/month... mabey even $160??]
and Insurance would be less [older car]

I looked through the other ads... and i found 3 other cars under $6k,
but there not private party [easier to get financed] so I have some options...

Hey dude, really sorry to hear it, I hope things work out. I just totalled my 99ES 3.2L just a couple weeks ago. Then I had to go to a freakin base model.

Here's a tip for ya man.....

You want first gen??? There is a greyish 97' 3.5L Intrepid that looks in clean condition for like $7,900 USD at Hayward Dodge, Hayward California where I bought my new base model 2.7L. I'm not sure how many miles. I would first check the blue book on it then tell them you will only pay like $6,500 or something and see what you can do. You just have to bluff them hard. Hopefully you have decent credit.

You want second gen??? They also had a purpleish 99 base model with like 54,000 miles for like $10,900. I know that they would come down on that one. I almost bought it.

They also have 2001 base models for $16,000 but they'll come down to $14,900, I know this for sure, I almost bought one with 26,000 miles.

I would purchase an extended warrany and have them add it to your loan. I purchased a 95 Intrepid a while back that looked like it was in great condition with 75,000 miles, nothing but problems. I put about $2000 into it then found out the tranny needed to be rebuilt and the tranny mounts were broke. I only had it for a few months too! I bought it for $7,700.

I actually considered the 97' but remembered what I went through with my 95'.

I purchased my 99ES 3.2L in April for $17,800, nothing but problems, major lemon but I liked it otherwise. It was really nice when it was not having problems. I looked for something simular and couldn't find anything else.

I hope this information helps, If you buy one and it doesn't work out or you have hella problems just don't be mad at me since I don't know how well they'd work out.

If you go for the first gen just really look under the hood at the engine, look for leaks near the valve covers, cracked/damaged hoses etc. Test drive it well, don't rush! Play it cool and you should get a good deal bro!

Take care, good luck!

Intrepids are relatively cheap used, they don't hold their value so well. I would think you could find a 96-97 with the 3.5 pretty cheap. Too bad you are without a car, or you could take your time to look. Plus you could probably reuse your wheels and ignition set.

I've also always liked the first generation Taurus SHO's, but they will require more maintenance.

I would think 98 2nd gens are getting inexpensive as well at this point.

dude, that sucks bad!! Good thing that you are ok. It still would be nice to see you at the Spring meeting. Maybe you can ride with Artifex??

Intrepids $$$$$ ?
Well, here in Southen CA, you can get a 97 with like 50,000 miles for around $6,500-8500. There is a **** load of these 97's. I do not know why?

A recommed other $10,000 used car with around the same power, well you do have choices.

1. Grandprix
2. Thunderbird LX v-8 ( w/ground kit )

You know what, a great choice for the money is like a 96-97 Bonneville with the suped-up 300 V-6. You have around the same room and power.

Good luck my friend!

Ok... Heres what im looking at....

Aside from finding another 1st gen trep for between 5-8k

A grand am gt/gtp with the 3.8... 97 [first year of current gen]

That T-bird sounds like a possibility. Even though I HATE fords.

VW GTI VR6 ??? i know its kind of a tin can... but i kinda like those cars

Chrysler... seabring or 98 concorde [damn good looking car!!]

anything else im missing?

All in all, another first gen 3.5 sounds really good.
Because i could find one for cheap and I can use the extra money for mods!

eeeeew, I wouldn' touch a freakin GM Pontiac, yuck man! Now I'd hotrod an older Pontiac, just hate the newer ones.

That's just my personal preference,

Ford comes second to Chrysler/Dodge for me.

I almost bought an 01 or 02 Taurus, pretty nice! SHO is nice, the older ones I cam across usually have some types of engine problems though.

Good luck bro!
