So Kinspade, aka Josh, has these awesome blinker lights that I saw at the meet. They light up with white LEDs as parking/driving lights and then blink amber when you hit the blinkers. I don't remember the website so we'll have to wait for him to chime in.

He was still having the issue that he needs to wire a resistor in line with them to get everything working 100 percent, but I'll find a source for the right size resistor once I can look up the specs on the lights. A lot of people have trouble with resistors burning out and it's because they aren't the right power. Typical little resistors are usually 1/2 Watt, probably not enough for this type of application. You should also go over on the power handling because they may be in a place that gets pretty hot on it's own.

If he doesn't notice this thread I'll shoot him a PM.

Indeed, a very cool mod. Saw it as well. Would love to see some more info about it.

They're called switchback LED's.

Alright now here is my issue. I know from Josh that a known issue with using one of their flashers is you lose your emergency lights. My idea is to add an appropriate resistor or load equalizer and keep the stock flasher. I just don't know what the factory bulbs are rated at to pick the correct part.

Thanks for the comments guys, didnt know I was so popular :turn:. Think me and fred figured it out. I ordered a different flasher and am waiting for it to arrive. Supposedly that and a 5 amp fuse makes it work. Atleast it does in his trep. If it works then its good to go, not I am getting with Dan on this.. Simple trial and error. Next ill be selling a kit for tails.... by the way who wants rocker lights?

This how the bulbs look out of the box. I went with the second brightest. Perfect fit.

I will get a video up tonight or tomorrow.

Seems expensive :(

I modified my blinker control relay to be adjustable with a potentiometer........I'm actually surprised it works. I can make them flash at any speed I want :)

So according to them this new flasher is supposed to make it all work correctly? If so then that could be the easy plug and play route.

Wiring in a fuse is not the answer. The only thing a lower rated fuse will do is blow early to prevent you from destroying your led lights in the event of something going wrong like a short. It doesn't actually add the resistance that you need to correct for the lights being LEDs.

My question is on how these switchback LEDs function. Is the switch between white and amber controlled inside the LEDs based on how much power is supplied to them or is that controlled by the new flasher you are supposed to get? I suspect that happens within the lights themselves and that the flasher is just supposed to control the fast blink issues, and in that case all I need to do is add resistance to the wires and it'll function exactly as it's supposed to.

I still don't get how a 20 amp fuse blows, but the 5 amp doesn't?:wtf:

90 percent of the time that a fuse blows it's because a power wire meets directly with ground somehow. Under those circumstances you'll blow pretty much any fuse.

Well it looks like a plain old 3157 signal light at advanced auto is 8.3W at 14V.

Just got an update from them. For making the switchback LEDs work you need to add one of their 6 ohm load equalizers to each LED and you can use the stock flasher.

I'm not sure what the deal is with your lights in the rear Josh, I haven't paid attention to that.

Exactly what I used. Wired them up and they work perfectly with the regular flasher, Boy are they bright.

So Brian that is the largest of the bulbs they have? I figured that as long as they still fit in the housing why not go for it. Dropping 25 a bulb or 28 a bulb really doesn't make a difference to me.

Damn, more money that I need to spend. I'll wait until my silverstar signal bulbs take a dump before I upgrade though.
