OK, now I'm not one to race much since I only have the 2.7 (with FloPro muffler and a derivitive of GR8WHT's intake though), but in this situation, I would give it my all. It started when this early 90's maxima just about pulled out in front of me until he figured out that I wasn't going THAT slow (30 mph speed limit). He pulls out behind me and tailgates me through an intersection where I took a left turn (and so did he). I accelerated moderately and so did he, and once we got over a bridge (by this time I was going 50mph which is 10 over the limit) he tried to pass. This was perfect because 50mph is a nice speed to kick it down into 2nd. Normally I don't care if someone passes me, but if I'm already going over the speed limit, especially 10 over, he's gonna have to earn it. Anyways, since he got the early jump to pass me, his headlights got up to my front quarterpanel, but then he started fading back and by the time I hit 90, he was one car length back... then he let off and I did too shortly after. All in all a good race. He didn't flash his high beams, no flyby, no more tailgating... I soon turned off the road and he pretty much quietly went on his way. I'm not sure of the specifics, it was at night. I'm guessing possibly the upscale v6 model because it had factory fog lights and descent rims (didn't look aftermarket)? most base models of cars don't get factory fog lights or real rims. I think the v6 for that model got 190hp... not sure of the other specs on it though. But either way, that's my two cents and pretty good coming from a base model Intrepid. As a foot note, to those of you who have the modified intake... DOESN'T IT SOUND SWEET?!? I love going under overpasses with my windows down and kicking it down into a lower gear so I can hear the echoes of my intake against the concrete. Well enough rambling, there's my kill. Probably going to be one of the only ones you see on here. :)

don't mess with a later maxima. one of my better friends has a 97 maxima with a 5-speed and a v-6. apparently this v-6 didn't receive a lot of press but the car is quite a sleeper at 240hp. i'd race a SHO in that car and expect to win.

Yup, those new Maximas are beasts...this year they upp'ed the horsies by 20 so people would still buy them instead of the 240hp Altima.

BTW: I stopped in yesterday to gander at the new Altimas (not shopping, just curious) I checked out the 240hp 3.5 SE with a 5 speed. I didn't expect it to be almost $28K. (I'm used to old Altima prices)Nice car, but not as nice as an R/T. (but if we could only get that manual!)

If I wanted something with some get up and go...Before spending $28K on an Altima, I'd get a Mustang GT with a 5 speed and a V8 (and RWD)and spend the couple grand I saved on some go-fast goodies. Flame away...I still love my Mustangs... ;)

Hell I love Mustangs too, but the base price on a 3.5L V6 Altima with a 5 speed is just over $22,000. For that price you get power locks, windows, air, tilt/telescope, cruise, AM/FM/CD etc etc etc. (Check out www.nissandrive.com if you need proof.)

Pretty good bargain.

The one I saw had everything! It was pretty well decked out. But it was a nice car. I liked the interior (plus I'm sure since it's new, they aren't dealing too much with the price).

It had leather, spoiler, moonroof...etc... (that's what brought the price up there) But, the thought of a nice burbly V8 for around the same price...it's no contest!

But, you are right though..it is a pretty good deal for all that power.

i'd rather have an altima because a 2 door car is a waste, even if it is fast. i'd rather have a maxima but alas i can't afford it. i will see what DC does with the next intrepid and its supposed v8.

They were a couple years ago. DC was looking to get an Asian partner to complete the alliance (US/Europe/Asia)..but after looking at their record sheets they realized that Nissan was in too much debt to afford a merger.

Well, actually now Nissan is in good shape, they got a new CEO a while back who turned everything around and they are now making $$. They would've been a nice partner.

Unless I am mistaking, Peugot bought a large stake in Nissan a couple years back, assumed the debt and proceded to clear it off.

According to Japanese business law, no one entity is allowed to own more than 33% of a publicly traded business, so of course that means that 33% is the controlling interest.

33%? Dodge now owns 37% of Mitsubishi Motors after buying out Volvo's 3% stake. Mitsubishi corp owns 34%.

Funny how this turned into a discussion about nissan altimas (and nissan in general)

It wasnt Peugot, it was Renault. Right country, wrong company :)

I wouldn't want anything to do with the company responsible for such classics like the Le Car, Alliance, Fuego (Fire in spanish, maybe they were thinking ahead :) ) and of course the Chrysler's punishment for buying AMC from them, The Eagle Preimer/Dodge Monacco.
