For all 1st and 2nd Gen LH car owners (Intrepid, Concorde, Vision, LHS) with original engines that have NOT experienced any major failures or rebuilds I am very curious to read the responses the following question will get.

It may be an unscientific approach but I'm wondering if there will be any apparent trend between long, reliable engine life and the brand and type of engine oil that LH owners with over 150,000 miles (240,000 km's) have used predominantly during their time of ownership?

If you fit this description please list the following:

Type of car, Year and type of engine:

Current mileage on original engine:

Brand and type of engine oil used:

Thanks for your participation.

'96 Intrepid 3.3 engine 179,000 miles. Used Castrol GTX to 11K, Mobil 1 to about 90K, Shaeffer 7000 synthetic blend to present. All 5W-30. Oil consumption has increased slightly, but still goes 2500 miles to a quart or better (don't keep that close track, just add if it needs a little).

Well I'm not quite up to 150k yet but I've got 132k on my '95 3.3L. Used various brands of dino oil from 50k (when I acquired the car) to about 110k. Switched to Mobil 1 5w-30 at 110k and haven't looked back. No major engine problems.

Had an '00 Intrepid SE 2.7L 180,000 miles. Used standard Valvoline 10w-30 during the cold months, and 15w-30 during the hot summer months. never any leaks, towards the end burned about 1/2 quart ever 4000 miles. experienced no problems with her... They will run forever if you keep the engine clean inside and out, and take care of them.

2000 Intrepid : 2.7 Engine; 165,000 Miles so far always used Valvoline 10W30 Oil. Change every 5000 miles. Uses 1/2 qt. between changes.
And even though as you mention this is an "unscientific approach" I think you will find that brand of oil isn't going to matter as much as viscosity and how often it is changed and how it is driven.

The '94 3.3 owned by me from when it 18,000 miles until it had 182,000 miles lived on Quaker State 10w30 dino changed every 3.000 miles.Occasionally I would use 4quarts dino with 1 quart Quaker State synthetic blend just for fun.The only repairs to the engine was two water pumps and a timing cover gasket. timing chain was original. It used less than 1qt between changes and was still running quiet and smooth when I traded it in.

I use the same stuff in the current trep' and the dipstick always shows full.

Right Now My trep has 56,000 miles and I use Penzoil Synthetic 10w30 and change the Oil Every 2500 miles. And my Honda Civic has 143,000 miles and I use Penzoil Synthetic 10w30 and change the oil every 1500-2000 miles. I also perform all regular maintaince early. To me on time is late. I guess these views grow when your the manager of a Jiffy Lube service center and you see how cars run when they are taken care of and when they aren't.

I always have used quaker state 5w30. Just the basic stuff. I have owened something like seven of these cars with milage ranging from about 110k to 225k miles in years from 93-96 inlcuding intrepids, concords, and newyorkers. The main car now is a 94 new yorker with 180k miles. QS has always worked great for me.
