One of the guys here at work has a hardwired factory radar detector in his Ford Ranger...has anyone else ever heard of this before, and if so, does Dodge offer it as well?

Never heard of such a thing, myself. You can buy some models that are meant to be hardwired including mounting the antenna(e) inconspicuously in the grille etc. but I have serious doubts that the factory would offer such an accessory.

They might offer it in the Viper.

I highly doubt any make offers a radar detector as an option, it just seems like too much of a liability to them. I can imagine someone winning a lawsuit because their radar detector made them feel comfortable driving at a higher rate of speed, but then they get into an accident and kill their loved ones. I can see a very win-able case there.

Exactly. It's enough that they will sell you a car that will do 150 or 175 mph but I am sure the automakers have no interest what so ever in selling you a car equipped with a device whose sole purpose is to help you get away with speeding. I'd bet all I have that neither Ford nor Chrysler nor anyone else offers a factory installed radar detector. The guy with the Ford Ranger just has a very nicely installed aftermarket unit.

Even if Ford did offer such a thing, I doubt they'd offer it for the Ranger. I had one of those for a long time and what it needed was a device to keep the driver from dozing off. It was such a dog, when you honked the horn it went 'arf! arf! arf!'

Why would you want a cheap factory unit if they did make one i wouldnt trust it. rather have a escort and hard wire it to the fuse box
