...well you were pretty much right lol. I took my cheating death 2.7 down to my local drag strip and here's the best of what the ol' gal did after 15 runs:

R/T .010
60' 2.601
330' 7.318
1/8 11.122
MPH 65.81
1000' 14.305
1/4 17.005
MPH 83.05

The sad thing is that I actually beat some POS 1990's Volkswagen Passat by like a half second.

We also brought my mom's 2.7 Sebring down. I don't have the time slip right now, but the best 1/4 was 19.995. However, last week she brought the Sebring down and got a 16.876. So I think the weather was less than favorable.

Also, this was my first time drag racing and it was a lot of fun. I hope to do this more when my engine isn't on death row.

I always thought the 2.7 was pretty quick. I didn't notice a big difference between the two until I got on he highway. Weather can make a big difference in times as I discovered last week at the track.

17.0 is pretty damn good for a 2.7. Normal times for a 2.7 Intrepid are around 17.2.

You mother is racing?

I don't think anyone has debated the 2.7L is slow but have you ever ran a 3.5L from a roll?

I've ran 2 2.7's vs my 3.5 and you could see the 1+ seconds difference and it's mostly from the launch. Mine is pretty strong, it has run 15.8 but one of those 2.7L Intrepid was taking me from a roll. Not sure if it's the different power curves, my lack of kickdown at certain speeds but it was totally walked on from a roll.

Yup, its ladies night every Tuesday and chicks can either race, or watch for free.

And, I have never driven a 3.5, but I would guess that 50 extra hp and ~50 extra ft lbs. of torque can't hurt. It does kinda feel like it almost "bogs" off the line sometimes.

You have big balls for racing that with such high mileage. If your 2.7 was able to get 16.876, I would like to see what the 3.5HO motors get.

My 2005 Impala could probably get a little better. (3.4L)

The Impala 3.4 has like 200 hp (about as much as a 2.7) as opposed to a 3.5 which has at least 242. And it weighs about 20 pounds less than a Trep.

I know that it was a risky proposition racing it, I just wanted to see what it could do. I don't plan on racing it again anytime soon unless I decide to do something to it.

Trep R/T's run about a second quicker or so. Also, this was with almost no gas, and anything pertaining to the spare tire removed.

Who knows???? Has anyone ever raced a Impala 3.4L? I am talking proof like a video.

My GTO(6.7L) is just a little better than a 3.5HO :)))))))
My friend has a 2002 with the 3.4 and the best 1/4 mile time he did was 16,2.....I was in front of him the whole night

P.S.: My best time is 15,58 with the 17 inch wheels on my '00. I plan on racing the '02 from now on....

Which dragstrip did you go to? The one in souther Wisconsin? I can't remember the name.
Yup, that's the one. It's called Great Lakes Dragaway.

From caranddriver.com, the Impala does the quarter in 16.6 @ 85 MPH and the Trep SE does it in 17.5 @ 82 MPH.

Sorry, but I've taken Impala 3.8's and 3.4's with my Magnum. The 3.8 has about 200 hp, the 3.4 is about 180 hp. My brother has a 2003 Impala with the 3.4 You can take the 2.7 LH's but not the 3.5's Interestingly though, the 3.8 Impala didn't seem to be any faster really than the 3.4's from what I could see.

A Flowmaster 40 Series in place of the sideways muffler behind the gas tank, no tail pipe muffler, a K&N drop-in filter, I matched the upper plenum to the lower intake manifold and the Special rear sway bar. And that's about it.
