ok, after finally rediagnosing that suspected bad water pump and realizing it was just a sticky thermostat, I attempted to change out the thermostat last night. Halfway into it, I couldn't find all my tools and it was getting late so I put it all back together. After all, the thermostat worked well enough for me to make it to Grandma's funeral this morning.

While I was at the funeral, some ass tried to steal my car. Apparently he didn't know what he was doing because he never even got the Club off. This idiot tried to start the car from under the hood, but the parking lot security guard came around and scared him off.

So I'm leaving the funeral and made it about 2 miles from home when suddenly the car starts smoking. I'm thinking it's the steam from the coolant, even though the car wasn't overheating. So as I'm trying to pull over to the side to stop the car, I notice that my spedometer is reading 0mph and the battery light is lit on the dash. I immediately turn off the ignition and grab my phone to call for backup. While I'm calling in the cavalry, I look up at the corner of the hood and realize that's not steam, it's [email protected]

And I can smell rubber or plastic burning. And it's getting thicker by the second. I jump out of the car and get about 20 feet back. Just then, the first flames start to lick up from under the hood. 2 minutes later, the entire front half of the car is ablaze and the front tires blew up. Then the fuel lines caught fire and the engine compartment literally blew up.

So say bye-bye to my beloved intrepid. I only put 150 miles on it in the 3 weeks I had it.

But the good news is, a replacement intrepid is on the way. As I write this, my "new" Dodge is being driven up from Arkansas by my kid brother. You see, I knew that car was going to need some TLC anyway, so I acquired a 2nd one to use as a daily driver while I put trep #1 on blocks.

To the A-hole who killed my baby: I will find you. And when I do, you're going to wish you died with my car.

I think he left something loose under the hood when he was trying to hotwire it. probably a jumper wire.
Yeah, that sounds right. This sucks a lot man.

I've thought about getting a small extinguisher to keep with me in the car. I love this car way too much to just watch it burn in front of my eyes.

So is insurance covering this for you? I would think that you could get it taken care of, file a police report if you have to and get them to talk to the security guard. No way should you be stuck with the bill for this.

I had some kid try and break into my car bout two weeks ago. I caught him in the act and he said "I locked my keys in my car". He didn't stick around long when he was staring down the barrel of my Fully loaded .380 jiminez. I can't believe how stupid some people are.

Sorry to hear about your car dude.
