i know that there is a huge difference (in terms of mechanical design) between the 93-97 intrep and the 98+....however...whats faster...the old ES, or the new? i mean the old 3.5 and the new 3.2, and i aint talking about the obvious...i want to see real world numbers in the 1/8th and 1/4 mile...and who's faster by how much?
(everyone! take out your spare tire, syphon out your gastank, and head to the track somethin fierce!)

I heard reports that its not as fast as the 1st gen, my mother-in-law had has (65 and she races!!!) She had the old ES Trep which I drove, and has the 2nd gen now... If I remember rightly I think the 1st gen was faster... Hey I might be wrong.. but thats what it felt like to me.

The new 3.2 has been a touch slower than the 1st gen 3.5, Ive raced my friend's '99 a few times and have always beat him by a few feet..

Now comparing the new 3.5 to the old 3.5, that just isn't fair..

Last time I drove the 3.5 ES was around 2 years ago, thats why I am questioning myself a tad, but I am sure I was shocked cos I thought the new ES would be faster...

Well, the new ES has either the 2.7 or the 3.2 engine. The 3.5 was for the R/T. So if you drove the new ES, than that DIDN'T (or shouldn't) have the 3.5L.

They're almost even in the real world. I'd run with one almost everyother day on the hi-way, and running each other out of toll plaza's, I'd barely eek him out. keep in mind, isn't the 3.2 rated at 220 hp? 1st gen 3.5 214? not much difference in HP but I do beleive there is a big weight difference.
anyone know what the 'new' ES's weigh in at?

I wanna say the curb weight is a little over 3400lbs.

Curb Weight = 3493lbs
Horsepower = 225
Torque = 217
Weight:HP = 11.08:1
Weight:TQ = 11.49:1

1997 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5L = 3519lbs

Curb Weight = 3519lbs
Horsepower = 214
Torque = 221
Weight:HP = 16.44:1
Weight:TQ = 15.92:1

So in the end the numbers aren't all that different. It comes down to driver ability, gearing, and a muriad of other factors.

I`d stick with 1st gen ES, I just like it better... cosmetically, they really didnt add any fancy bodywork on the new ES compared to the Old..

Couldn't post to the the board last night...

But I was gonna say that mustve been a 3.2 you drove if it was a ES.. They didnt start putting the 3.5 in the ES until this year, and its detuned a bit from the R/T..

And yes ive driven an R/T and a 300M, and yes they are faster...
