I just bought a damaged 2000 300 M today and there is to much damage to the wiring and I am unable to get the gauges to lite up the milage. Does any of the techs know with pins I can power up to show this once the gauges are removed? Or if I install the gauges into my 1998 Intrepid will it show what is on the gauges or will it read from my Intrepids ECU ?
Thanks for any help that you can provide.
Rich.

Here are the full functions of the BCM, from the FSM. Look under mechanical instrument cluster - Odometer support is listed. I Have tried 4 different BCMs in my car and all give the reading from the donor car or mileage. If I wanted to be unlawful to D/C for warranty, I have one that reads 18,000 Km. I could switch back and forth and keep my mileage low.
Two interesting facts on BCM, sort of off the topic.
The FSM says that when replacing the BCM, it must be programmed to accept senty key theft system by the scan tool, or the car will not run. It must be a "yes/no" thing as I have swapped them with no problems.
The other thing is that the BCM read distance in miles only (I thinK), as when I have put in a US speedo, it reads in miles, whereas, the Canadain ones read Kms. I suspect the speedo head's chip converts to the necessary readout.
You are also correct that the PCM stores accumulated distance as well, but does not change what is in the BCM. I suspect is is a double check for D/C for something like a major warranty service.
3.3 BODY CONTROL MODULE
The body control module (BCM) supplies vehicle
occupants with visual and audible information and
controls various vehicle functions. To provide and
receive information, the module is interfaced to the
vehicle’s serial bus communications network (the
Programmable Communication Interface or PCI
bus). This network consists of the powertrain control
module (PCM), the memory heat seat/mirror
module (MHSMM), sentry key immobilizer module
(SKIM), the electro/mechanical instrument cluster
(MIC), the optional overhead travel information
system (OTIS), airbag control module (ORC), optional
antilock brakes (ABS), the radio and remote
CD-player, optional left and rightside impact airbag
control modules (SIACM), and the optional automatic
temperature control (ATC) head. The (BCM)
is operational when battery power is supplied to the
module, ignition switch power is needed for ignition
switched functions.
Automatic headlamp and fog lamp
A/C switch status/evaporator temperature status
BCM diagnostic support
Central lock and unlock (VTSS only)
Chime
Climate Control (Automatic and Manual) system
support
Door ajar switch status
Door Lock Inhibit (key in ignition or headlamps/
park lamps on)
Electronic Odometer Support
Fog Lamp Control
Headlamp multiplexing control
Headlamp, Park & tail lamps with battery save
feature
Headlamp Time Delay
Illuminated Entry with “fade to off”
Interior lighting with battery save feature
Mechanical Instrument Cluster (fuel level, dim
data, odometer & warning chime) support
Memory system (LHS and 300M)
Overhead travel information system
Power door lock multiplexing control
Rear Window Defogger Control
Remote Keyless Entry with Panic Mode
Remote power deck lid release
Remote radio control
Rolling door lock control (customer programmable)
Sentry key immobilizer
Speed proportional steering
Vehicle Theft Security System
Wiper Control (speed sensitive with return to
park)
The BCM receives information over the PCI Bus
from the PCM in order to support certain features.
The required information is as follows:
² Engine RPM
² Engine Temperature
² Injector on Time and Distance Pulses
² Vehicle Speed
² Charging System Failure, Engine Temperature
Limp-In, VTSS Arming Status
² Engine Model
² “Check Engine” lamp status
The BCM provides the PCM with information on
the A/C switch status and the VTSS status.
The LH has several customer programmable features

I read through the FSM on the subject but assumed - since there's no mention of updating the mileage in the BCM when installing one - that the BCM would be updated from the PCM. I wonder what happens with a new BCM - 0 mileage? Strange.

edit: Old age is a wonderful thing - but I'm not that old!!! http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/showpost.php?p=644406&postcount=14

I concur with your assessment of the speedo - the cluster must interpret the signal in some way. It would have to or there would be at least four different BCMs out there just to support that - US and Canadian versions of the 120 and 150 clusters. It just makes sense to put speedo interpretation in the gauge cluster. But I'm not so sure that information comes straight from the BCM - it may just be an intermediary. When they installed my new PCM they forgot to enter a tire size ("pinion factor") and my speedo didn't work. There was also no increase in mileage even though mileage was showing in the display.

I'll ask at the dealer tomorrow about a new BCM. (today's a holiday here) when I go over to order some parts. I would assume by the rest of the FSM on it that the scan tool is used to re-enter the correct mileage, but will find out whether it gets it from the PCM or not.

Thanks for all of the help on this subject, I will still use the motor no mater how many miles it has on it but if the miles are high I would like to change the belt now with the motor out in the open.
I cut the car in half and bought only the front half of it for what I needed. The only thing I lost out on was the ECU & TCM was damaged from a hit on the left head light area.

Mmmm, Lakeside Park (old Rush song) makes reference to the 24th of May.
That's Victoria Day, right? Is there a "common" name for it or is that it?

Victoria Day or 24th weekend, we use both. An excuse for the first "party" weekend of the summer.
