There have been reports of problems with the "easy release" of Gen3 Seatbelts that Chrysler has used since 1993. Check out this site, and register to be notified about any news on the subject.

There is also a visual avi that shows the problems they claim, using the "marble test"

ABC Primetime did a thorough story on this subject Thursday night (3-7-02). The link to the ABC story is:

Gen4

Anyone replaced their gen3 with gen4 seatbelts? Te question really is this... did anyone have any luck having Chrysler pay for the belts? It should be just the latch part, not the whole belt.

Do all the intrepids have gen 3 seatbelts? If not, what year did they turn to Gen 4?

Thanks,

The ones that I have on hand have 3rd-gen. I think I'm just going to cut the tops off flush with the housing with a Dremel. Still I think only people with really skinny, bony elbows can unlatch them in an accident... ? Don't know if it really is a widespread problem, due to the small amount of responses. However, just a single death due to something as stupid as a seat-belt latch is still important.
