Yesterday I was giving my car a bath and I washed every part of it...even the engine. But when I got in my car after it was sparkling clean, it was acting really wierd. I'll turn on the car and everything will seem fine. But when I go to put it into drive...the light on the gear indicator doesn't light up, and none of the guages work. Added to that, the Air Bag light will turn on. Does anyone know what this could be? I mean, I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes to reset the codes, but it didn't do anything. Could I have gotten something wet that wasn't supposed to get wet? I'm pissed because if I'm driving down the street and throw my car into neutral, the guages pop up to what the car's current speed, rpm's, temp, and so on are. But when I put it back into drive, they all go back to zero. Can anyone tell me what has happened to my car? It is quite imparative that I have a speedometer. Well, please help. Thanks.

most likely something is wet....let it dry out for 24 hours and it may go back to normal...either that or your output sensor on your tranny has fried.

Well, the transmission is fine...its not doing the thing where it stays in second gear. The only problem I'm having is the fact that my guages aren't working and the air bag light is coming on. I have no headlight assembly on my driver's side. I was wondering if maybe I got something wet that shouldn't have gotten wet...like an impact sensor.

I'd reseat the TCM connector and make sure it's dry. That's the big module in close proximity to the battery. Sounds like a couple of contacts from the tranny range sensor are shorted together via moisture. Gots to be careful when spraying under the hood. ;) Like nightravin said, let it dry out and you'll probably be alright after a while.

If its the Transmission, then why is the air bag light coming on...why aren't the guages working, and why is my car not doing anything funky (transmission-wise)? I'm so confused. Just out of curiousity, what does that TCM connector look like?

The TCM is mostly silver (black panel on one side I believe) with some small fins on it and about the size of a small textbook with one big honking connector going into it. The TCM senses your shifter position, sends it to the BCM, which then drives the display in the instrument cluster. Sounds like your shifter selection isn't being read correctly by the TCM any more. This is just speculation on my part of course. My crystal ball didn't come with any guarantee. ;)
