Hi:
Mistakenly, I posted this as a reply to the 2.7L Burning Oil post ..

I need help to fix my 1998 2.7L Dodge Intrepid.
Need your help with the "shaft mounted valve compressor.."

Miles: 102,000.

Bought about 6 months back.
Was running good. All of a sudden very heavy Tapping noise, only from
the Passenger side.
Removed the Valve cover on both sides...
I see no build up of material.. Timing chain, guide, etc all look clean.
friends suggested inspecting the a) Rocker arm, b) Lifter & c) valve springs..

According to Haynes manual, there is a special tool to compress the
valve spring, without removing the cam shaft...

I went to many local stores, searched on the net and see nothing.

Haynes calls it " Shaft mounted valve spring compressor".

question: Any one used one of these " Shaft mounted valve spring compressor"...?

Any idea where I can buy one..?

I really do not want to remove ALL the stuff like, radiator, power steering pump , timing chain etc and then "inspect" the springs, lifter etc..

Any easy way to do this job...?

Never used one, I usually left head work in that extent up to a machine shop.

As far as the tool goes, check out OTCtools.com, there might be something there.

I probably would have to agree with this one too, just depends on how bad your engine is damaged, and how long it will last if fixed.

I think you should check your belts. Perhaps they're in bad shape. I had a really bad tapping/ticking sound coming from the front of my 98 ES about and year ago and it turned out to be the belts. When I pulled them off the car they were frayed and pieces were missing from the inside...
