Rumor has it that the highway partrol in Tennessee are about to use Intrepids for their new rides. I know that they started to use them in the NorthEast bt now down south too? Is this going to be the new wave of patrol vehicles for the entire USA?

Could very well be. Driving through Jacksonville, Fl on route to Panama City I spotted numerous marked white treps.

I've seen them used in WI. already.
Indeed.

I've seen a few regular base-model Intrepids with Police markings on them.. as well as Intrepids with the "police package".

Fond du Lac must be in a trial stage.. as I've seen one and only one with the police package here in town.

Our county(Stark-central Il.) has had 1 for about a year now. The deputy doesn't like it cause he's a g.m.guy.( I used to run the only parts store in the county,so you get to know most everyone). But he says they haven't had any problems with it.

Most agencies are just experimenting with them. And aren't totally switching over. The NE state patrol got a few awhile back and they didn't even put one into service because they kept breaking during aggressive driving testing. Mainly transmission problems.

That makes me wonder - If the Intrepid is on it's last legs production-wise what is going to happen to police departments purchasing police package intrepids??? Is there going to be some LX based police package?!

won't ever be a wave, let's not forget the intrepid will soon be extinct from production.....
So true...

I started wondering if they are using the Treps now knowing that Chrysler is going to starting making RWDs. I've also heard that the Crown Vics may also be leaving use soon, Ford is also going to make changes. Also heard that the police departments were not happy when Ford decide to sell the Mercury Merader (its a Ford car so spelling is not an issue) becuase it is pretty much setup like the interceptor.

Don't get me wrong I love Intrepids, but as police cars???
We've already had reports of problems with them.
And as a every day family sedan they have their problems.

So As for police cars I say I don't want the intrepid as a police vehicle, I am a tax payer and I don't want my tax dollars to pay fo replacment 42le's out of the ass and suspension bushings, and brakes and 2.7 engines.

A friend of mine in TN says he heard that they were upgrading the braking system and tranny. These two things were my only complaints about the Trep. I've gone to the cross-drilled slotted rotors and hit has been a huge help in braking. As for the tranny I'm sure they can figure something out.

What about the 2.7l engine just sitting for hours idling ac on ?
Then add the 2.7l being treated like the crown vic while pulling a 3xxx pound vehicle.
If the damn engine can barley handle normal families up to 60000k, then theirs no way in hell that it can handle police life!
I don't want my dollars paying for it! I'm already going half crazy about our local police officers burning out from lights in the crown vics. Think about the 2.7 used under these conditions. Let me add that the push bars will require that little 2.7 to pull the 3xxx vehicle and push other vehicle that are in distress. think that the little engine or the 42le could handle that task?

I guess you aren't paying attention.

The police package includes a 3.5L HO engine, if I remember right. The 3.xL engines haven't shown any reliability problems.

The 42LE may be an outdated transmission, but if it is taken care of (ie fluid changed, tranny isn't run really hot), in my opinion - it should last.

even though they may look unmarked, they are still the same police intercepter(spelling) cars..... why would they go other wise?

A police fleet vehicle gets same regular upkeep no matter the make model or markings..... so you know that they'd be flushing the tranny on a regular basis and they'd have good contact with DC about the problems they have to help future treps, the only thing to worry about is being slammed onto the second gen's Trep hood after a good while of driving (had a friend have this happen to him.....) nice n hot!

In Slc and surrounding area's I've seen first and second gen Treps being used(marked and unmarked) as well as Dakotas and Cherokees, I find it a great site.

Now the creapy thing is SLC Police just aquired 2 or 3 Brand spaking new Suzuki Hayabusa's fully modified (led tail signals with the outer ring of lights red on one side and blue on the other for that true stealth cop look) to combat bullet bikers......... now that's scarry
