Ok, I'm an extreme newbie on this site. I've got several cars including this 97 with a 3.5 liter 24-valve motor. It recently exhibited signs of overheating due to a bad water pump. The car has 115,000 on it. The pump seems to be OK however so I'm also looking for suggestions for the overheat.
My main question is, How can we verify the cam postions are correct? We do not believe we rotated anything during disassembly and reassembly, but I'd rather be safe than be sorry. How can I verify correct cam positions? I figured someone here could point me in the right direction.
I spend most of my time wrenching on my two other projects, a 93 and 95 T-bird SC or on the SCCoA website. The Intrepid's has been through hell as my extra driver that my two younger son's drive, but it's been a pretty dam good car. Any help would be appreciated.

The Factory Shop Manual on this site is for '02, but I think the 3.5 info still applies.
You could check out the timing mark orientation here; http://dvms.dvusd.org/02lhe/
I'd check/replace thermostat, and see what shape the radiator core is in. But you've probably done that. Does performance feel like the cam timing is off?

Just had to say welcome to a fellow Bird man! Gotta love em! I'm still looking for a decent '92 Sport....or maybe another FOX chassis...who knows. I have to get my Trep back on the road first. :(
