Ok, I have seen many pics of various peoples' engine compartment and I have a simple question. How on Earth do you clean your engine compartment??? I have heard that one should not clean the engine due to the chance of damaging the many many delicate sensors. This is why I have not dared to clean mine. So, I would like to know how you people do it and what product(s) you use.

Never cleaned my 99 yet. But when i would take my 98 in for detailing, they would clean the engine as well.

Also, every now and then, i would just use a power washer and spray the engine with water. Never had a problem

If everything is like it should be in your engine...it should be able to get wet with no problems. Anything that can be damaged with water should be sealed. But, that may not always be the case....

Warlord187, I've always wondered why you kept it looking so sweet on the outside, but under the hood was dirty...no offense lol... heres a shot of my engine:

I used simple green foam spray degreaser to get the major dirt off, then went over the plastic and black areas with armor all

I also go with the detailing route, make sure the detailer includes engine steam cleaning and it will look as good as the day the dealer handed you the keys

Nice looking engine Gary, thats the way i clean mine too. BTW isn't your filter a little too close to the motor? I would think it would take in alot of hot air being that close

I think I've posted this before.

I use an engine cleaner, scrub the really dirty areas, let stand for 10-15 minutes, and hose off with water, covering any electrical components and taking out the air filter, then start up motor, let air dry, soak up water puddles, and spray over with Armour All tire foam, let stand and dry, looks shiny and new. Have been doing it for years to all my cars, never have had a problem. Seems to run better clean too

I use something I get free from my brother at the dealership.

It's called Total Clean from MOPAR. And it cleans anything, carpet, dash, and yes even the engine. Just spray it on the engine and spray it off with a hose. I've never seen anything get my engine compartment so clean. Looks like the engine has never even been started.

its no longer there...I went back to the stock airbox...anyone want a stainless steel airfilter?

Any basic degreaser, like someone mentioned Simple Green, will do. This is the way I did it for two and a half years portering cars at a dealership. They all drove away OK.

I do mine at one of those do it yourself car wash places. I just spray the degreaser/tire cleaner stuff all over the engine compartment, rub it in with a fairly stiff brush, and jet wash it all off.

Be carefull with armorall on the hoses. Some dressing products will break down the rubber and you will get tons pinholes. Make sure anything you use is safe for hoses and belts.

WARLORD....I have a kit I buy and it does it all. I am at work right now but I'll find the name. The degreaser works great even on a warm engine ( does not leave white residue) and then once you rinse it all off..there is a finishing spray which keeps it shiny for months. Up here it costs about $13.00 I'll get back to you with the name.
