I was doing my 3.89 gears the other day, I never removed the exhaust due to it not wanting to come off (282,000+). I simply removed all the hangers, unbolted the marmon clamps on the headers, and let it hang.

How the hell do you remove the clamps on the exhaust. for example, the ones where the downpipes join at the muffler, or the one on the passenger side downpipe. I completely removed the nut, tried gently prying the clamp open more, tried the torch to heat it up, the hammer, an impact chisel, everything.

why can't chrysler just use flange style like every other normal company? :bash:

The clamps are welded to the pipes, no need to take them offr. Just loosen the nut, tap each side of the clamp to free it a bit, the whack the pipe with a big hammer and a b lock of wood, and it will slide off. The clamps do not crimp the pipe, just seals it.

I guess it's my mileage on my car then, I tried all that and a bag of chips. I never actually removed the clamps, I figured (as you said) that they are permanently part of the pipe.

Out of the three important ones, I was able to get none of them (neither of the two joining at the center muffler, nor the one on the p/s downpipe). The one on the very back by the muffler came loose with some good heat/twisting/etc. but I merely did this one for practice.

The Chrysler tech that I work with said yes they are a ***** at higher mileage, that heat is the best way to get them off but they are very often cut off. There isn't a huge amount of corrosion the pipes are fairly clean, but you can imagine at 282,000+ they are together pretty well.

I guess for my cat-back, I'll be cutting them off. :( I was hoping to keep the stock exhaust just incase something went wrong and it sounded bad.
