Well, I finally did it, it took me the entire day to finish it, but I think it was worth it. I took some pictures as I went along.

Here's what I started with...



Here's what it looked like once I got the dash off. I planned on having the dash on the ground, outside of the car by noon. I had it out by 11:30 :)


Here's the 2 side by side while I swapped the harnesses. I suggest doing it this way so that you can look at the 2 harnesses to see the difference in routing. This will make life a lot easier.


Once I had the dash out I took a couple pictures of the gap difference if you are thinking about putting 300m door panels in without putting in the 300m dash. This is sort of the opposite situation, but it will give you an idea. The gap is very noticeable, I know a few had asked about this, so here's the proof.

Now here's the comparison once the 300m panels are on. Muuuuuch better...



And here is the finished product. Finished before dark!



Some things I found out that I didn't know:

1. There are actually slightly different sizes in sail speakers between the Trep and the 300m, never knew this, good to know.

2. You don't really need to remove the front seat to get the dash out, it might make it easier, but it's not neeeded.

3. You CAN do this whole process alone, a second set of hands would make life easier, but it's not needed.

4. There is a difference in the door-pull-cups from the Trep and the 300m. The screw hole is in a different place, I need to find a new one on my next trip to the yard, I damaged one in the process of installation. Nothing I need to warn anyone about, not something you might do, just a stupid move on my part.

So, if anyone is planning this mod, just ask me any questions. I might not be an expert, but I have done it successfully, so I can help. The install is not really that bad, they really are plug&play. All the screws match up and the wiring is close enough to be a breeze. The only thing that I needed to rewire was the connector for the clock (I reused my old harness) it wasn't too hard, took me maybe 15 minutes to complete.

Congrats, welcome to the 300-dash clique.

Not sure why you had a door panel problem, All the ones I've ever done, all the screw holes lined up perfectly. Maybe the cup was in backwards or something. Also have several sail speakers, Trep. Concorde and 300M. Checked the part numbers on the retainers - they are all the same, as are the numbers on the metal Infinity covers from all 3 cars. Curious.

How come you swapped the harnesses - unless you used one with incompatable radio plugs? Otherwise, you shouldn't have had to change it.

Another small thing, removing the steering column also makes it a bit easier, as well as the seats.

Thanks Ross, I'm happy to be in the club :frenzy:

I swapped the harnesses because the one in the 300m dash had a remote start/alarm system installed, so the wiring was all crazy under there. I am considering trying to get the missing parts and install the remote start on my car, but that's for another thread.

The speakers ARE all the same numbers and such, but take a look at the passenger sides, the ones From Treps are slightly higher than the 300m ones. I thought it was strange as well, I never noticed it until I tried to put my Trep speaker back in once the 300m panels were installed...they didn't fit.

The door pull cup fits fine, and it will be fine once I get another one from a 300m, but the one from an Intrepid is slightly different, hole is in a different place, and it's slightly deeper. Not a panel fitment issue, just a swap issue, if you get what I mean.

I was going to remove the column and seats, but I decided to try it first to save time, and it worked, so now just in case anyone decides to try, they can save time as well.

BUT!!! I advise anyone who does this swap to be extremely careful if they decide to keep the seats in the car! You CAN easily damage the seats if you're not careful. There are sharp edges on the dash panel that can cut your leather! If you're afraid of damaging the seats, just take them out, it's not THAT much time saved.

Nice job Jeff! I did pretty much the same thing when I did my ATC, except I just put the intrepid dash back in. I left the seats and column in as well, and it's the only time I ahven't followed Ross's advice! :) I also want to note for those worried about the door panels, I don't think the m panels with the trep dash look nearly as bad as the trep panels with the m dash like in your pics. I don't have 4 panels yet, but this is a test fit I did to see what it would look like before I bought a full set.

Man... I really like that. The wood really compliments the steering wheel. Maybe one day I'll get this done, and the RB1, and the ATC, and the door panels, and my dual exhaust, and the list seems to go forever....

00r/t.mopar.muscle That is a good point about the panels. I did a test fit with just the panels before I did the dash, and they didn't look nearly as bad. I just put that in there to show how much gap there actually is. I know CaptainMorgan had asked what they would look like and so those pics were mainly for him.

murquiza If I knew for certain that those parts would just bolt on, then yep, those would all be next on the list. As it is, the next things on the list are:

Mopar ipod kit
Mopar Bluetooth Kit
Window tint
Dual exhaust
CAI
Kenne Belle Optimizer II
3.89 Gears
Special suspension
Projector headlights

I am working with some guys to see if I can get them to make up a custom bodykit for me from some drawings I have, but that is all in the planning stages, we'll see if it ever pans out.

RMF419 It didn't take that long. I started at 9:00, and I finished around 5:00. But you need to remember, I have taken more than 100 dashboards apart in the process of finding parts for members, so I had a lot of experience ;) One time I was working side by side with a guy who worked at the junkyard, he had an air gun and I had hand tools, we were both taking out a dash. I finished before him and he was so pissed. The difference was that I just know exactly where every bolt and connector is by heart.

Thanks guys. After all the waiting and searching for the dash, and then the work of installing it, I really appreciate the comments.

I still haven't done the rear panels, I'm chicken I guess, but I'm afraid of screwing up a set of panels. I will do it eventually, but for now the colors match except for the lack of wood in the back.

Today I found out what it is that makes the glovebox door not stay closed. I took it all apart and found a spring missing in the latch assembly. It was connected by a piece of flimsy plastic. If anyone out there has a problem with their glovebox door opening every time they hit a bump, let me know, I found the culprit. I swapped the latch with one from another part and it's fixed now.

Nice work! Swapping dashes can be a PITA, but I've done it soo many times I can do it blindfolded. The M dash looks great, makes the car have a totally different look.

Seeing those pictures is something that every LH owner will experience

8 hours man just for that, pathetic. I wanna see that whole thing done in under 4. :)

I never realized that the door sail speakers weren't the same until you showed me the M ones in with your intrepid panels, it makes sense but i never thought about it.

That M dash looks great in there!!! Makes me consider swapping mine at sometime, but I kind of like the 2nd gen trep dash! Except for the part where the shifter bezel meets the dash.

me 2! for once, its a mod I dont want to complete...
I like the 2nd gen Intrepid dash, i like it a lot more than the M dash... the only thing i like better about the M dash is the clock... the clock is kickass...
i have always tried to figure out a way to fab the clock into my intrepid, but i never did come up with one...
