(2002 3.5L V6 engine 63,000miles)

I read some posts on this already but can still use some help deciding- Whining noise coming from engine when accelerate and also when in idle and I rev. the engine. Also makes a squeeling/whining noise when I turn right only, sounds like it is coming from front left part of car/wheel area, but can't tell exactly as I'm moving of course when this happens while turning right.

Both sounds started at same exact time, been about a month doing this.

Posts have said could be power steering pump vs. idler pulley vs. altenater.

Brought it in to Car-X for oil change and they said it is the power steering pump and will be $300 to fix. Right after I left there, went for second opinion to a local mechanic (works own business, not for a large chain or anything and have gone there before), and he took out mechanic stethoscope and heard whining noise from the idler pulley. So he said it is not power steering pump it is the idler pulley and would be $75 to fix.

But would this be the issue if sound occurs when turning right?

Now I'm stuck, which one is it? Should I get third opinion? Would like to hear from anyone else who may think which one is the problem from your experience. Any help would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

When you turn the wheel the pump is putting greater load on the belt. Belts stretch and wear out, try tightening the belt slightly to see if the noise goes away. Easy to do and costs nothing.
