I had discussed this with my pal as soon as i got the car back.. I am debating if I should just chance it and drive it till she blows... Or do the Tbelt and pump.... hmmmmmm...

Anyone got over 200,000km on their 3.5 HO's with original Tbelt and water pump?

Anyone know approx what this job is worth to have done? Im guessin its not cheap? I should prob put in new plugs as well? Maybe time for a tranny flush too?

Anyone know if this motor will self destruct if the belt goes while driving it? Its my understanding that the 3.5 is a non interference style desgin and will not cause damage if the Tbelt goes on me unlike the 2.7?

I know that if the belt goes on a 2.7 its game over!!!! but 3.5? not sure...

I've heard them go as long as 150k miles, and some die as young as 120k miles. Honestly, you should just do it if you even remotely plan on keeping your car because once it goes the engine is totally shot.

There's a guy down in mississauga that had 220 on his when he changed it. I wouldn't chance it though. If you're not to bad with a wrench then you can do it yourself. Also, you could go see TFC in Whitby he'll do it for a lot less than what a dealer charges. Plugs are a good idea, tranny flush isn't, but a fluid and filter change is a good idea.

The 3.5 is an interference engine. Timing belt snaps, goodbye engine (in most cases).

I just blew the AC Belt... Just bought a new Serp and AC belt.. I am looking at the manual tensioner bolt for the serp.. It does not like fun to get at!! I am wondering if I should get a Tbelt and water pump as well and do it all at the same time...? Anyone done this job? Let me know if it is a real pain to do...

Well depending on your skills, the TB/WP on your R/T will be no-sweat or a PITA.

Once you have the front crossmember removed and the radiator fans removed, changing the TB/WP is pretty straightforward. You'll save a ton of $$$ doing it yourself, of course.

And yes, they're both right behind the timing cover.

I thought for sure we had a HowTo for 3.2/3.5 TB/WP changes - but I only see one for the 2.7! :dead: The FSM will give you the proper procedure.

Here's a thread that offers up some pix of what's involved.

(Procedure is same for 3.2l and 3.5l engines)

Is timing belt easy to get at? I am assuming it is right behind the serp and AC belt behind the cover? Same with water pump? I am good with a wrench... Just wondering how easy it is to get at all the parts?
welcome back.....to do the timing belt is snap....and not literally.....

Well.. Sweet Daddy!! That was a badass write up!! I can so do that job.. I think I will do the Tbelt, Water Pump, Crank/Cam Sensor and Thermostat(with drilled holes) all at once... I will prob do some new plugs at the same time as well.
With the Trep being an R/T it really deserves all I can give it to keep it safe. The rest of the car is in MINT shape.. not even a spot of rust yet!! She runs like a champ!!! I Redline that baby at least 5 times a day and she does not complain a bit.
Like I was saying, I have more fun driving that car than my RAM Hemi Sport..

LONG LIVE THE R/T TREP!!!!!

Cheers on the replys gents...

Don't touch you Cam/Crank Sensors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave well enough alone here. Because, the new sensors that Chrysler and the aftermarket have are garbage and give you problems. Allot of people with '03 and '04 are having problems with them crapping out soon after a new one is replaced.
