Hello all.

I'm back. The week at the lake was great. Got sunburned beyond belief and had to sleep sitting up, but all is well now that I am peeling. :)

Anyway, just wanted to share that I am home and will be back to the posting.

Looks like I won't be driving much of anywhere for a while. :( I noticed a squeel coming from the front right so I took it in this morning. Apparently the car needs a $600 front brake job. That is a Car-X estimate, so I am going to look elsewhere for estimates as well, any suggestions?

The mechanic says I need rotors at $85/per, calipers at $106/per, pads at $112/total and the shims and misc hardware. I hope he is blowing smoke, the rotors looked glazed but also looked there was enough thickness left to have them turned. The mechanic also said whoever did the last brake job used the wrong parts, so I am going to call the dealer (since I bought the car 2.5 months ago) and see what kind, if any brake inspection/work they did on it.

Just what I don't need. :( I don't have $600 and I am no where near hard on the brakes either.

The good news is all the other problem areas this car has with suspension has already been fixed. Bonus to me!

I wish you lived in St. Louis I would do the brake job for $150. I am sure that you don't need calipers. It is rare that the calipers leak or freeze up. It does happen though. Car-X technicians as well as other small muffler and tire shops do get commission on the parts that they sell and Car-X is a good one for that. I would definitely get another opinion. Calipers that are bad usually leak or freeze. If they are freezing they usually will cause the car to pull to one side. Good Luck. Matt 97 3.5 ES
