Good evening,
I tried to search this topic first but did not find any details just a few individuals whom have done this. I am interested in swapping my Instrument cluster with a 2002 300M cluster (like the design better and reverse lighting)
I have a 2002 ES with the bigger 3.5L
I see it is possible I am just wondering if this swap is "Plug n play" or is there some additional wiring that needs to be performed?
also, same question but for the Police Instrument cluster that goes up to 150MPH>

300m clusters are a direct swap in your Intrepid ES with a few caveats. You'll need to swap the clear plastic front bezels. You'll need to use the one that's currently on your Intrepid. An easy swap.

Now for the fun stuff. You can use either a standard 300m 120 mph or 300m Special 150 mph cluster. No calibration needed for the different speeds. All 300m came with ABS so your Intrepid ES has to have ABS to prevent the Brake Warning light from coming on. The 2nd thing is whether your car has or doesn't have front side air bags in the seats and whether the 300m donor car has them or not. Both of these must match or you have more warning lights.

The biggest issue you're going to run into and it will be a deal breaker is that all 300m came with AutoStick. Your Intrepid ES doesn't have that at all so you're basically fooked in trying to put a 300m cluster in unless you change out your shifter and add the additional wiring to put Autostick in your car.

For the Police 150 mph cluster it's a direct swap. No bezel change needed. However the ABS has to match again. I don't believe any Police models came with front side airbags but i could be mistaken on that. Again that option needs to match. There aren't any AutoStick issues as no Police cars came with it.

If you're really set on the EL Illumination type of cluster your best bet might be one from a Concorde Limited. They look similar to a 300m cluster but don't have the Autostick Gear Indicators. White face gauges with Silver trim rings and Illuminate Green "Indiglo" EL. Only 120 mph though.

And just FYI. No Intrepid ES had the AutoStick option from 2002-2004 nor the SXT. The 2002 R/T was the only 2002-2004 Year/Model with AutoStick. After 2002 the R/T was dropped and no longer available. The R/T was produced from 2000-2002 only.

That is exactly what I was looking for My ES does not have ABS (Not a fan of ABS)
Now the Auto-stick thing will the cluster gear selector still work thou just with a useless Auto-stick part? (if you know)
Ill look up the other option you gave me tomorrow I found a Junkyard in Hampton, VA about 2hrs from me That has both a 150mph Intrepid cluster and a 300M cluster...
Side question just popped in head, I'm assuming the Police cruiser ECM Brain doesn't have the speed restrictor programmed given the Instrument cluster goes well beyond the 110MPH limit?
No, I don't wanna go that fast just a curiosity thing.

No...putting an AutoStick cluster in your ES will cause major driveability and shifting issues.

The 300m clusters won't work for you unless you install Autostick.

Your best bet for a 300m style cluster is a Concorde Limited cluster. Looks the same but no Autostick.

The only LH car that didn't have a speed limiter is the 2000 Intrepid R/T. All others had limiters including all the Police models. The speed calibration is in the cluster and not the PCM.

So your best bets are an Intrepid Police cluster or a Concorde Limited cluster Concorde Limited cluster requires swapping the front plastic bezel with your Intrepid one but no big deal.

There's also Standard Concorde clusters with black faces and silver trim rings. Not sure if that's of interest to you. I have one ore two of these.

Thanks .... I just bought a 150mph cluster off EBay I'm partial to the white gauge faces in all my cars so much so I replaced the ones in my ford with white gauge faces

I'm assuming I have to do the swap with the digital board that has the odometer mileage on it if I wanna "keep" my original mileage for the engine/car once I get this cluster and the clear plastic bezel cover will need to be swapped with my existing one has you stated.

and I always wondered what went into that circle space down into the right of your pic Trac Control... LOL
Mines doesn't have that

Hope you don't get a Brake/ABS warning light in the new cluster seeing as how your ES doesn't have ABS.

All 300m and Specials had ABS.

Interesting discovery....

My Original factory Cluster has ABS and Trac lights in it and my car has neither.......

All clusters for cars that have those options available have them. Even if the options aren't in the particular car. The PCM/TCM or BCM programming activates them.

An example of an easy check to see if your car has ABS is whether the ABS light in the cluster lights briefly at engine start. If not then no ABS.

No , I found a cluster from a Police interceptor haven't done the swap just yet the car is in paint shop at moment being "debagged" ...
Targeting next week
