yikes..that sounds like a really odd problem. I don't think reseting the computer (detaching the neg battery terminal) is gonna help in this situation...

Anyone else ever heard of this??

I may of heard of this. How many miles on the car? My dealer told me that they are starting to see a lot of worn out ignition switches (where the key goes in) on the first gen intrepids. He said people could get their car started and it would run fine but some functions (switches, and lights) would not work. Hope this helps. ;)

It sounds like I would take a good look at the ignition switch. I don't think that they are to terribly expensive. Thats where I would start. Good Luck Matt

I was talking to my brother-in-law about
this, it happened on a 93 Intrepid I just
bought, naturally it didn't happen when
he looked at it. He was reading in the
shop manual, and it kept referring to some-
thing called the body module. Unfortunately,
more specifics are in the electrical manual
which he doesn't have. You could ask if
your dealer has any information on this,
it is something I hadn't heard of before.
Possibly it is lose or worn out.
All the instruments were out, including
odometer, so it would have to be something
that takes care of the instrument panel.

The body control module is under the passenger side kickpad, the cable that feeds the instruments terminates at the body module. Check the connections to this module.

Found a fix for this problem after having the
car for a week in my shop.
Long story made short, there was no power to
the fuse for the instruments/shift indicator
light. It took a long time to find it because
when I would be checking things it would fix
itself,so items checked would check ok,(the
warning lights go out afater a few seconds so
if I would be checking a system that was
working that I thought was still inactive).
Caught on to things the day I was to return
the car to my daughter, did a quick fix by
running a small guage(diameter) wire from
the fused side of the blower fuse to the feed
side of the instrument fuse.No problems since.
Thanks to all who gave help and advice.
