Hi all
I have a 99 intrepid es and I am curios about something. Whats that thing underneath the steering column? (For instance)If you sit in the drivers seat you can look under the steering column as though you were looking at the pedals but look upwards to the end of the column. Sorry I can't be more articulate concerning the "Thingy" but I have no other way to phrase it. I asked my husband previously and he is clueless. Its not in the manual at all so if anyone could be of any help please HELP.
Thanks in advance

Ummm ..... I don't know anything about a firewall either, sorry. You can see it if you look under your steering column; its attached to the bottom of the same column the steering wheel is attached to. Hope that tidbit helps!)

I think she means the mettal plate that looks somewhat like a George Foreman grill. ;) It's a safety device for your knees. If you get into an accident that throws you forward, your knees hit that instead of all the sharp things behind it. But I could be wrong...

Just a thought
Yeah, that's under there, too. My dad has an adapter for all cars that will plug in there and to his laptop and read everything the dealer can. It's pretty cool. Even shows possible problems that it will not show you if you just do the ignition thing to get the codes. I broght my 99 home on the test drive and scanned this car before I bought it :D No errors at all.

OKay thanks everyone but let me ask one more thing about what you are referring to; when you take it out does it look like a small chip (or something)with a handle on it?
Not that its a big deal but I would really like to know what this is. A BIG THANKS!!!!

I'm having 2 problems with my 98 Intrepid ES.

1. Say I have a 1/2 a tank of gas, the gas gauge will drop to zero DING & go back to where it was. This happends randomly. The dealer says it's the fuel module in the tank & it'll run $600 bucks with labor. But of course my Intrepid is WAY beyond it's warranty. Thoughts, maybe a wire I can look for?

2. When I set my parking brake & release it the parking brake pedal will only come up 1/2 way.
