The 3.5L motor is technically a Hemi motor, because it has hemispherical combustion chambers, opposed valves and the plug in the middle of the chamber. Now, it may not be referred to as a "Hemi", but it is one in design.

you can get them with the 3.5.

yeah the LX body has the 2.7, 3.5HO, 5.7 hemi and the 6.1 hemi

the magnum and the 300C have all four engine options, while the charger is not available with the 2.7 (good thinking DCX!)

In Canada, the 300 isn't offered with the 2.7L.

The same motor but the intake and exhaust are different for sure. Being the motor sits north south for RWD Chargers. And not east west like the LH's Intrepids FWD. There might be other small changes too??

Have you ever looked under the hood of an Intrepid?

Same engine, just there is a different intake manifold to make way for the electronic throttle control. Chargers get the 5 speed automatic on all models (except fleet 2.7L), Magnum and 300 V-6 RWD models get the 4 speed, while AWD's get the 5 speed.

I would worry about clearance issues, especially with the plenum on it, the Intrepids was designed keeping in mind the shape of the hood. Also the LX cars use electronic throttle control, need provisions for that. Better just stick with an LH motor since your not getting anymore power out of the 05-06 3.5L.

Why would you want to ...?

2003-04 Intrepid SXT/300M ... 250 HP/250 TQ
2003-04 300M Special ... 255 HP/258 TQ
2005-06 LX 3.5L engine ... 250 HP/250 TQ

The SXT/300M and the 300M Special have the same engine mechanically (though the M Special does have a different exhaust) - it's the programming that makes the difference. Earlier 300M's were rated at 253 HP but were still the same mechanically.

But figuring a way to get that 5-speed tranny in a Trep might be worth while ... :)

All the LH cars above have the same exact engine (though the M Special does have a different exhaust) - it's the programming that makes the difference.

Specials had only a gain of 5 horses over the standard 300M which were rated at 250 hp in 2004. I think when the "M's" came out in 99 they were at 253 horses.

Yeah - I should have checked my numbers more closely before posting. It was the TQ that was 258 for the Special. And you're right - the first 300M's were rated at 253 HP/250 TQ.

Edited original post ...

253 hp & 255 ft-lbs on 89 and non-LEV compliant.
250hp&250ft-lbs on 89 and LEV status for 2001
300M special 255 hp 258ft-lbs on 91 with dual muffler exhaust and LEV.

LX 250hp/250ft-lbs on 89 also and LEV (how much can a second rear muffler cost? or a dual exhaust.)
