Jayski.com [NASCAR news and rumors site] has a picture of the what could be the replacement for the Intrepid. He has posted a picture of the 99 Concept Charger that looks like a continuation of the coke bottle styled Chargers of the 60's and 70's. There has been alot of speculation and rumors about what Dodge was going to have on the track in 2005 and what car would go along with Magnum on the dealers lots. I haven't found anything confirming this but it is a strong possibility!

I did a bit of looking around the web and still haven't found a picture of the confirmed "Charger" I found just the same old rumors but nothing saying what the car will look like....will it look like the 99 Concept or what?? I guess we will have to wait for the North American International Auto Show to find out?

Unless DC revises the current boxy outside & tasteless inside design ideas, it seems that the Intrepid replacement will be called Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.

WTF??? The Charger concept is SWEET!!!!!! If they don't build it the same as the concept I feel the reason behind it is because they are afraid it will take away from Viper sales.

Sweet or not, it's addressing a completely different public than the Intrepid.

To put it in other words, DC is now into "cool" cars, leaving the classic family segment to Accord and Camry for the "standard large car" group, Buick targeting the elder people and Taurus the "value for money robust car" buyer.

cheers,

Is and isn't. It has this curved aerodynamic shape that appeals to you and me and mom. Get inside and it's very "classic with a modern touch", which makes young and mid-aged moms & pops buy it (hey, this are the folks with the dough). Put alu pedals, formula 1 gauges and all the charger-like styling and they wont buy it anymore. Make it a rear-drive coupe and your sales will have as many figures as the Viper's.

cheers,

I hope you didn't paint it silver, making it look like the front of a Walmart $69 radio-cassette player ;-)

Mine was taupe anyway (with bright platinum metallic exterior paint), I found it to be exactly to my taste ;-)

cheers,

Actually, after adding a bunch of chrome, it looked a LOT better. The best was the "Chrysler R/T" chrome lettering on the passenger side dash...........and the chrome handles and switches are great too :D

The rumor that sounds like it has the most merrit is that the 99 Concept will be the 06 Charger. That car is cool. It has the cab forward look of an Intrepid with the coke bottle style of the popular Chargers of the past. Chrysler execs have said that there will be no more cookie cutter cars that share tons of sheet metal. They may share the same platfform but each car will have it's own creative signature look. So it sounds like the Magnum and the 300 are from the same LX platform as the planned Charger but the Charger will be as different as the Magnum and 300 are to each to each other. I doubt I will be able to afford one anyways so I will be looking forward to what replaces the Stratus in the near future.

Uhmm, the Mustang is a rear driven coupe and its sales are soaring. It'll only have the sales figure of a Viper if it has a sales price as a Viper. If the Viper is $20,000 a copy, just watch its sales volume soar.
