I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but what does it take to be worthy of becoming IOM or even nominated. I was thinking the other day, wouldn't it be great to be IOM??? All of the people who have made it to that spot obviously have put alot of time and effort into making their Intrepids (1st or 2nd gen) and the other various rides on here what they are today. Believe me, if you have made it to that position, then you really deserved it, our newest winner THE PRESENCE, damn, I can't say enough about it, I just know that I could never be that worthy with mine, the funds just aint there. I was just wondering about that, so don't think I am crying cuz I aint. If I were to ever get nominated for it that would be more than I would have ever expected really, I like to call myself a leech on the sight, I grab onto alot of info and possible mods, Since I don't know really anything about the car except it is a very nice car, I don't offer BS answers to peoples questions, I leave that up to the pro's on here. Sorry for rambling on about this.

Just cause you dont have a lot of money to modify your car doesn't mean you dont qualify for IOM.

If you look at some of the past winners, some of the cars were pretty bone stock.

IOM to me is something who stands out. Whether is be their car and its modifications, or how they support the site. Basically, it all comes down to what you bring to the table to make this a great community to belong to.

When I grow up, I wanne be IOM!

IOM is all about who votes for you. If you are popular with everyone it will happen. Look at CLONE. Hes got about my most favorite Trep in this whole place. But He didnt get IOM for quite a while.

So it just depends on where you stand with the regular users. Theres nothing that can say JOE BLOW with a 98 Se all stock cant win IOM.

It also helps to attend regional meets to get recognized.

How many of our PAST IOMs have NOT attended any sort of DI.net meet? Very few. I can only think of a couple offhand... Pimped... Presence... 93Intrepid... etc.

Exactly John... IOM winners should have a nice vehicle (in appearance) and mods do help. ;) Also if they help out others even with the minor ****. That counts too.

IOM means nothing or everything, depends on who you ask. Seems to be 3 main category of voters, I know because I asked alot of people.
1. Those who vote for the car
2. those who vote for the owner
3. those who vote on a combination of both
There was even one who voted just so a person he didnt like wouldnt win.
What being IOM means no one really knows. You get a pic and some text on the Home page, you get to put "APRIL 2003 IOM" or some such in your sig and you get a thread stating you are IOM. Some of the people on this forum are obsessed with being IOM while others couldn't care less. I guess the best way to be nominated/voted IOM would be to make alot of friends and tell them you would like to be IOM without really asking them to vote for you.

or as crombie once stated in his IOM thread

To tell you the truth... be yourself. Don't act like a Internet tough guy, and for the love of God.. don't lie. People can tell when another member is fibbing. Help... I cannot stress that word enough. Help out your fellow DC owners. If I see someone in dire need I'll flip to my Haynes, if I can't find it there, I use this sites search button, and if I have had a simlar problem with my trep... I'll tell them the remedy to correct their problem. Simple as that. :) Oh yeah and another thing... appearance. Your trep has to be clean! And of course the less stock, the better. ;)
And instead of replying to everyone's "Congrats" post. I'd again like to say: Thank you to those that voted for me, and thanks for the compliments about my SE. And Dave (Reiton)... Lol... you remembered!! 50 shot of NAAAAWWWSSSSS please. :D

I understand. I would absolutly love to attend a meet, but considering the locations of the meets it is really hard to do so. Being in the middle of Tex-ass and all of the meets seem to be in the northern part of the US/Canada. Going along with thread of starting chapters, maybe that would be a good thing. Granted at the same time, people have to be able to get to some of the meets and what not. If there were lets say 20-30 people within a 4 hour drive of lets say Dallas, then that might be more achievable for some of us, like myself or Dallastrep and whoever else in in the general local......But at the same time, the job I have and the people I work with, it still is hard for me to break away. My upper supervision is nothing but a bunch of retards that throw their rank around. The shops motto has been affectionatly dubbed (by yours truely) "**** the ones you really depend on" meaning that they don't care what plans you have made, or bought plane tickets to see family you ain't seen in 3 years or longer, as long as they look good in their bosses eyes. Me and the wife have yet to take a descent vacation since I got to Texas. I either have to work on the weekends I did make plans, or I cant take leave because the "boss" wants to take leave..etc..etc...etc.. But as far as IOM goes, I can really care less if I ever make it or not, I was just wondering what it takes to get to that spot. I think people like THE PRESENCE and CROMBIE and GORM  whatever, people like you guys who do alot to the car and posses the knowledge. I know I have learned alot from you guys. I am glad I stummbled accross DI.NET after I bought my cars. I didn't think there was anything that I could do to it. Hell, I didn't realize that the Intrepid is what is driven in NASCAR (cuz I can't sit and watch cars drive around in a circle for hours on end...low attention span:biggrin: ) I feel I am part of a group now just to be able to get questions answered and to see some actuall potential in my cars. I consider everybody my "internet friends" ...vote for me:tongue: ...even tho' I have not met any of you in person. I say that because everbody has helped me with alot of little stupid things and I do apprieciate that.

It takes time. Some people care, others don't. Act like yourself. Some of our most senior members haven't made IOM yet. maybe they care, maybe they don't. Your turn will come up. Maybe sooner than later.

I did a coupla things to set myself up to become IOM. This was not by design - it's just what I did in being a member of the board.
  1. I posted a lot - some of it actually useful!
  2. I became friendly with a bunch of prominent / active board members
  3. I attended the Jillians meet last year
  4. I sent Randy a donation (just kidding - IOM's don't get bought!)
[/list=1]Then when I decided to 'go for it', I campaigned like crazy, hung out in chat a lot and pm'ed friends asking for nominations and votes. I got the nod the first time I was nominated! Whorey but true...

Even though I solicited votes, I don't think I would have got them if I was a complete asshole or hadn't contributed to the site in terms of posting and stuff... Yeah, people like my car but I don't think there has ever been an IOM that hasn't made friends around here...

So... just hang out and get to know people. If you're gonna say something that's gonna annoy people, make sure it's something intelligent - not just ass-gas. Be yourself and not fulla ****. Even if you don't have lotsa $$$ for mods, keep your car real nice (soap and wax don't cost too much!) and post some good quality pics of it, including your sig.

    Good luck!
