I am considering getting one with my stimulus money. Anyone have one or know someone who does, and would be able to offer some constructive input. I imagine that I am going to recieve a lot "IT SUCKS" replies.

being that I just ended employment with at&t not too long ago. I think the iphone is a nice device depending what your uses are. if you are more so a ''business'' (short powerpoint presentaions, meeting notes, more poweruser and professional friendly) user then I wouldn't recommend it. if you are the ''fun'' (txt messaging, mp3, internet usage) user i'd say go for it.

my quams about the device is apple controls its price. so for the same I pay for an iphone I can have a windows pda that can do a little more in a lot of ways. damn apple is just price gouging its ifollowers.

It is a nice device however, theres rumored to be a new one coming out this summer/fall that will house 3g data and gps. as the asain version will this summer so hmmmm......

OK, first off this is coming from an Apple fan so I'll try not to be too bias either way. I own a 15" Powerbook G4 (wife's), 17" MacBook PRO and 2.5GHz Powermac G5 tower. My wife and I were planning on switching to Verizon but after my boss sold me his 8GB iPhone for $50 (he bought a new 16GB for himself), we are now going to be AT&T customers in another 2-3 weeks. I gave the phone to my wife and will be buying one of my own soon. I always wanted one but couldn't justify the cost at first. However, with the new SDK (software developers kit) coming in June, this device is going to be limitless in the things it can do as that it all all software based.

There are also 2nd gen iPhones expected to either be revealed or released in June, probably with upgrades in storage capacity, 3G data, as well as possibly thinner and longer battery life. I'll be buying one before it comes out anyway as I can hardly out the wife's down.

I'd be glad to answer any questions you have in an honest manner. Remember this is Apple's very first take at a device like this and I believe the next will squash a lot of the picky details people might complain about. I am extremely impressed with the interface. It literally is a running version of Apple's desktop OS X. Having a full blown web browser is wonderful and the multi-touch (meaning you can pinch, squeeze, pan with multiple finger commands) is unlike any other touch phone out there.

Cost is a bit of a disappointment but they will come down just like every other new piece of technology in time. I will say there are very few electronics that even come close to holding the value os Apple products do. So you may be paying a bit more up front, but you'll be sure to get more for it later when you decide to upgrade.

Well, without writing a book, I'll let it go at that for now. Post some specifics if you want and I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies. If you have yet to play with one, I highly recommend going to a nearby Apple or AT&T store and interacting with it first hand. It is really impressive. It's almost like having a mini computer in your pocket!

My brother just got one and he loves it. He Jailbroke it and put some new games and emulators on it so he can play NES on it. I want to get one but I am going to hold out for a bigger one so that I can get rid of my Ipod. I got my brothers Blackberry though and I really like it I just need to get a big microSD card so I can wait for now.

My Apple / iPod Touch rant!

Well, I was FORCED to get an Apple iPod device since I wanted 2 way communication with my MP3 player, and I can't get that with any other device :(. What's that you say? There are other MP3 players with dock connectors? Yes, both the Creative Zen Visions and the Microsoft Zunes have a dock connector which should allow for 2 way communication...........however there are NO accessories available to actually make use of it on either device :(

So I decided to go with an iPod Touch (same basic thing as an iPhone minus the phone part). I DO like it........it was overpriced though (as ALL Apple products are).

I mentioned the 2 way communication before since I use it the most (allows me to plug it into the glovebox in my car and control with the RB1/iPod kit, as well as allowing me to use a bluetooth adapter so I can use my bluetooth headphones to both listen to it and control it), web browsing the 2nd most, and regular MP3 listening the least (ugh, I can't stand the way most people use this thing with the included crappy earbuds)

Some things about Apple that just piss me off though:
1) Price drops a few months after release (Screw the early adopters! Good idea Apple! That won't piss off your loyal fans!)
2) Only including bare bones software, they could've included a LOT of the useful iPhone software.........but nooooooooo, that would've taken away from iPhone sales.
3) Releasing a "Version 2" device which is identical hardware wise, but now has the iPhone software included and then CHARGING people who have the "Version 1" to 'upgrade' instead of just giving them the extra few pieces of software such as Weather for free!
4) Locking down devices so people can't do what they want with them! Oh no, we can't allow people to do what they want.........that would make for bad business practice. Let's force feed them our iTunes BS!
5) Incompatibility with Windows Vista 64 bit! WTH? It worked with the 64 bit Mac OS since release.........but didn't work with Vista 64 for quite a while "iTunes is not compatible with your version of Windows, please download the 64 bit version", WHAT 64 BIT VERSION? THERE IS NONE!!!...........luckily the situation has been rectified now with the latest release of iTunes (after angry emails to Apple).
6) Where the hell is the bluetooth? iPhone gets a shitty version of it (Mono A2DP......on a music player? WTH was Apple thinking?) iPod Touch gets no bluetooth at all however...WHY?

Luckily the iPhone/iPod Touch a huge following, and the hackers are hard at work releasing hacks to allow the phone and iPod to do what they should've done from the factory. I upgraded my software version for free. I won't give Apple $1 of my money over the cost of the hardware, which includes avoiding getting a cell phone where some of your monthly fees go straight into Apple's pockets!!!

seems that in order to get all the features you want, you have to pay. it would be great if there was a device that did everything for free, but since thats not gonna happen, ya gotta take what you can get. as far as apple tryin to keep things proprietary, i say why not? they spent the money in R&D, they did all the marketing, it is THEIR device. if people wanna play video games, then they should go buy a DS or PSP. the ipod cant do it all....

I don't mind AT&T at all. I've been on them/cingular/them again for almost 5 years and I can remember droping three calls. I've had crappy signal before, though usally in places where no one has signal at all.
