Hi. I own a 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE. When I'm driving and I slow down my car would jerk and shut off sometimes. Does anyone know what is causing it?

Yes, the check engine light is on and it was a basic code leading to the transmission but I forgot what is was. Also; I went to Aamco and they said something about it going into fail safe mode and it would cut off after it get to a certain gear.

Get the code read properly. Doing the "key dance" will only bring up a P0700 for the transmission which is a generic fault. A P1776 fault can cause the vehicle to kick when it downshifts and then sometimes get stuck in 2nd gear (limp mode, meant to protect the transmission from being damaged). Either way, you need to find out what the exact code is. Even a $50 harbor freight obd2 scanner can check transmission fault codes.
