Dude - someone stole all your wheelcovers!!!!
j/k

Toyotas are supposed to be reliable cars I wish you well with it.

Curious - where did the TRD badge on the grill come from?

lol ya, i took the hubcaps off for the track day, and never put them on again.
ya TRD stands for toyota racing development, like the SRT for the dodge.

That looks exactly like the one I had as a rental in DC earlier this year. to be perfectly honest I wasn’t a fan of the car, but I can’t fault anyone getting one if they simply want economical transportation. I sure do remember that body roll when I was trying to merge into traffic. I don’t blame you for getting that tightened up a little bit. Considering the time it takes to build speed, it’s a pain to have to slow down way too much because it feels like it’s going to capsize.

well if ya ever want to ride in a real car, or the rubber band brakes on your new toy.. gimme a call.. :groupgrin

hehe well, ill see you at 300,000+ miles when my car dies... if urs is still running at that time...lol

ya the car is slow... but actually the steering feels alot better than the concorde... concorde was too light, but it did have stiffer suspension... but solved that problem with the race springs for now...

but dont underestimate the corolla... u ever seen a corolla Xrs? i know they will beat the 3.3 and maybe the 3.5 on the highway... vvtl-i...

You all are screwing up my well crafted sarcasm

I know what it stands for. I was trying to point out that he just stuck the badge on there. There's nothing backing it up. I don't even think there are any TRD parts for the Corolla LE

I almost feel a little bad for going after a Corolla, since going after import tuners on a domestic car website seems like such an easy target. I don’t remember what sub-model of Corolla my rental was, all I know is that I thought it was one of my least favorite cars to drive. In my opinion, while the steering on the Intrepid offers very little feedback, the Corolla felt like I was just stirring a wooden spoon in oatmeal. The engine had absoluty nothing below about 4000 rpms, and when wound up above that still didn’t inspire confidence merging into rush hour traffic. There was as much body roll as my mothers 77 Eldorado, and the brakes slowing those tiny little tires were so poorly balanced that when a car cut across 4 lanes of traffic and I jabbed them, I could hardly manage to fine tune my brake pressure enough to make the front tires stop sliding and still manage a moderate deceleration. (I guess from the fact that it had no ABS it must have been the base model.)
Now from all that you’d almost want to probably say “hey why are you street racing in your rental Corolla?!”. Unfortunately that was just me trying to keep up with the flow of DC traffic, and not being able to really do it. This meant that countless times people were literally screaming profanities and telling me to move faster ect.
I’m sure yours is a little more engaging to drive because you’ve put the aftermarket shocks in it, and maybe it came with a slightly better engine then my rental. But I still would never personally want to own one, since there are cars like the Mazda 3 and the Civic SI that get good gas mileage and would suit my driving style a little more. I don’t mean to disrespect you specific car since it sounds like you’re really into it, but this is just my personal opinion from my week with my rental Corolla.

P.S. Next time I’m in the Maryland area with the trep I’d be happy to pay your way into a strip so we could test the theory of a Corolla being faster then an Intrepid with a 3.5.

hey, i like it lol thats all that matters...lol
and rental cars usually suck because ppl dont take care of them... my brakes are just fine lol and they worked fine after 10 laps of track time.

04IntrepidSXT ya the LE doesnt come with TRD parts... actually none of the corollas do. but they do have aftermarket parts accessories that u can buy... and i have their reusable filter... they also have springs and other stuff for the corolla...

and 24vsleeper i meant the corolla Xrs, which has vvtl-i, celica GT-S engine with the lift tech.. ya my le wouldnt stand a chance even on the 3.3 (unless a 3.3 with a crappy trans.. that keeps lagging btwn shifts)
(Xrs runs 15.4** 1/4mi and i found acouple of slips of 3.5l dodges and the fastest was 16.2**)

hehe i know what u guys are tryin to say lol i was one of u guy... but i got sick off paying 600-800 for transmissios

heres a video of lift, i know most guys dont know about it *note the engine sound

Okay I’ll definitely say it’s pretty cool in that video that it changes the color of the entire gauges when it does its Toyota version of VTEC thing. I wouldn’t mind having something like that on mine as a shift-light. That being said, that sounds like an awful lot of rpms to only accelerate as fast as my 2 ton family sedan. In this case I think the reason it can get a better quarter mile time is because the Intrepid has slow, torque over-managed shifts.
But it’s true; people all have their own opinions on cars. There’s really only one person whose opinion matters when it comes to a car, and that’s its owners. Really I’m just happy to hear that you took your need for speed to the track and had some fun with a car that is actually a truly economical car to commute with too.
It could be that my rental had premature wear and tear on it, but since I would want to push it (if it were mine) from time to time, I’d just be worried that it would end up feeling like that rental did after a year or two. But that’s pretty much moot anyway because I like bigger cars, so I don’t think I’d be in the market for a compact anyway.
To be honest, it was a mistake that I got the Corolla as a rental in the first place. I was supposed to have a Magnum, but the rental place seemed to know how to take the reservation, but they didn’t know how to hold the car, so it was either a Corolla or a PT Cruiser, and I wanted something with a trunk to keep my laptop hidden in.

are the engines in the trd'd any different than ones in any of the other models now?

i know at one time they werent. it was just a ground effects kit and a few other small options.

you are right about the gas mileage thing and they are some fun 4 bangers to drive. my cousin has an 06 and i get so jelous that she can drive half a week longer than i can before filling up and still spends less filling up.

edit: or was it the xrs that had the same engine as the other models for a while? :icon_conf . i know one of their sporty models was just a few stick on body skirt upgrades and tighter springs or something.

lol never met jack taylor, my parents both the car, it was a surprise :p
but i think one of my dad's friend know him, thats y they drove all the way to VA to get the car...

EDIT: wow i didnt know there were so many ppl here from mid-atlantic

Corollas? Too small for my tastes, but I like the little things you did to it to make it stand out. Also...those tail lights? They don't look aftermarket, are they JDM? And I'd be glad to go toe to toe with your Toyota on a road course any day. Hmmm...maybe I can take down both you and sleeper's Trep with my new GT. Muahahaha! :grinyes:

Actually I kind of want to see which would win between the sleeper and your GT. Even though the trep had 39 more hp stock, the grand am is a much smaller car and weights a couple hundred pounds less. I think it would be pretty close…but my moneys still on the trep. ;)
