I just ordered a K&N air filter for my car and I'm wondering what, if anything, it does to enhance the performance. I'm sure it provides better air filtration than the filter that's currently in there (the original one), but I'm interested in the longevity of the K&N filter as well as any potential performance improvement caused by it.

So, all you 2.7L Intrepid owners with K&N filters, what difference did it make for you? Either way, even if it doesn't improve the performance, the $36 I spent on it will be money well spent if it lasts for the life of the car. Thanks. :)

I do not own one yet, but I have heard that it improves your fuel economy just a bit. I want to get one when I redue the intake.

Didn't notice too much either way Performance or Mileage but with me putting 5000 km/month on the car it pays for itself in longevity. I use to change my old paper filters every 10,000km but now clean the K&N every 2-3 months

I noticed a slight increase in fuel economy and maybe a little bit better sound.. either that or I'm on crack... so who knows really. As far as longevity all you have to do is clean them every few months and then re-oil them and it should last the life of the car.. ok peace, i'm out!!

I just put my K&N filter in yesterday and I noticed a difference immediately. I noticed an increase in acceleration and power, and the gas mileage seems to be increased too. Best $36 I ever spent. :)

And, FYI, I did not do anything else to the car that could possibly account for the increase in performance. I didn't use a higher grade of fuel or anything like that. :D

00ChryslerIntrepid, Where'd you pick up a K&N for $36? I got 2 quotes last night, one was $47.99 and the other $45.99.

JGarrett98, I picked up mine from www.performanceproducts.com. The price was $36.95, plus shipping. Once you tell the site what car you have, you can look up all kinds of parts and accessories that are made for your specific make/model.

If anyone found their K&N filter for a lower price, I'd like to know. :)

I checked out Jegs, and the shipping is free, but it says there is a $6.99 handling charge on all orders, which is pretty ****ing stupid....

I,ve had both the drop in KN and the cone type in my R/T. By the seat of pants driving The cone type seemed to be better. Just my 2 cents on the matter

with a cone yes it will suck in warmer air, but it will take it alot more air then the air box can. Ive heard that you get a better sound out of a cone filter as well. plus it looks cooler.

yeah but if they replace it with a paper-element filter your performance is going to be just as crummy. get a k&n then at C-level time, demand that they clean and re-oil the filter. see how they react to that.
