I have thought for a long time that this board should have a Kills Section, similar to what you see on almost every other automotive board. (I'm even willing to be moderator! *hint hint*)

I'll get things started by posting my only two kills (so far) with the LHS.

1. LHSer vs Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0L

This was not too long after the wife and I bought the car. It had been rainy, and some nice weather came along, so I decided it was time to cruise. I came up to a stop light beside a pretty nice Ranger (I was born and raised Ford) with dual exhaust, it looked and sounded great. I was checking it out when the owner spotted me. He must have thought I wanted trouble cause he starts gunning it and lurching. I figure what the hell and decide to give it a go. I shut off traction control, lever down in to first and brake torque to about 1500rpm. The light turns green, and we're off!

The LHS bogs at first, letting the Ranger have the lead, but when it sweeps past 2500rpm, the surge comes on and the Ranger is at my back doors. Shift to 3rd and I pull ahead more, Ranger to the bumper and falling off. Finally in D and the Ranger is 2 lengths behind and lagging, although I can hear those pipes screaming. I let off at 60 (in a 30 zone, eek!) and the Ranger does the ol' Ricer fly by. I don't think he was happy. :) Oh well.

2. LHSer vs Olds Alero

Travelling I-94 west of St Cloud heading back to the Twin Cities after an outing in Alexandria. We are cruising along at 75-80, a nice clip when all of a sudden this young girl (17 at the most) starts tailgating me in the nice shiny Alero GLS (V6) that daddy must have bought her. Anyway, she goes to pass, and I figure I'll punch it. She was tailing me and I don't care for that.

We are neck and neck when I punch it, and when I do, she does as well. As nice as those Alero's look, the sure lack something in the midrange performance area. The LHS pulled on her and didn't let her catch up until I let off at 105, at which time I was about 4-5 lengths ahead and gaining. She pulled in behind me and kept her distance the rest of the way back to the 'Cities. (After giving me the finger when I looked in my mirror, of course.)

So any kill stories from the rest off you? :)

PS I read in a back issuse of "Motor Trend" that an LHS will do the 30-60mph romp in little under 3 seconds! Thats performance car times. That sure says something about these cars. I'm sure that is the same on other LH cars with the 3.5L setup.

I was told that the Intrepid was a little lighter than the LHS so actually the Intrepid could probably fair even a hair better, SWEET!

95 Intrepid 3.5 vs Ford Focus ZX3
TRUST ME, THIS ONE WAS NOT MY IDEA BUT I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF IT, LOL! This was a planned 1/4 mile drag. I won by 2 car lengths at least. Need not say more.

95 Intrepid 3.5 vs 98 Ford Taurus (not sure on motor size)
Same 1/4 mile, planned drag, my wife was driving the Intrepid, she said "I only had the gas pedal down half way" (she hates to speed). Still whooped Taurus ass. :D

I think a kills section would be a great idea, but the only problem is I'm probably not going to be on there much w/ my 2.7... It'll haul ass down the interstate, but isn't much of a stoplight racer...

I'm not so sure about you saying the 3.5 intrepids are faster than the LHS's. my brother had a 94 LHS and that thing had plenty of balls. until it got killed by the U-Haul (not in a race, in a collision...) I happened to be driving at the time too, so that pretty much sucked ass. He's got a 96 Intrepid ES and I'd say they are about equal for speed.

WOO HOO... here we go:

I think I can say that I am probably one of the more active people here who 'looks' for a kill now and then.

I will describe each one briefly...

vs. Olds Intrigue
- guy thought he would make it on two-to-one lane merge onto the Elgin O'Hare expressway. Off the line, punched it, neck and neck until 2nd gear. Then I gained and then 3rd gear... gained significantly and he let off.

vs. 3.8L Mustang (x2)
- both times, off the line, spun my tires once, neck and neck until 2nd, slight gain, then midrange kicked and at 3rd, I had a significant gain.

vs. Olds Alero
- off the line, no chance for the Alero... by the time 3rd gear kicked in, I was already enough ahead for it to be considered over.

vs. Dodge Avenger
- nice red one, young gal that really really wanted to make it ahead of me before the construction merge. Needless to say, she didn't have a chance.

vs. Dodge Intrepid ('99 3.2L)
- this guy was very pissed off when I showed him up. At the next light, I motioned to him and smiled, and said "again?". I didn't bite it on the next light, and he was out of there. Heh heh.

vs. Jeep Cherokee 5.2L v8
- We started accelerating, he punched it, and I followed. Stayed neck and neck with him until I saw it hit 70, and then I let off. Guess you can say I am conservative... I don't go "to the end" with this.

vs. Olds Cutlass Supreme
- Going south on Hwy 53 near the Route 66 speedway. This guy... amazing. Three different lights, and three different times, I smoked him... several car lengths ahead before I let off (and he passed)... only to meet at the next light. I kept showing him the count through my sunroof with the number of times (two fingers, etc). heh heh.

vs. Ford Taurus SHO
- I had my butt handed to me. This gal wouldn't let me pass her on I-55, kept trying to go around, each time she significantly increased. Then I had my chance and punched it (Rowr!), but she pretty much smoked me.

I definitely think we need a forum for this!

p.s. July 3rd, there will be a group of us going to the Route 66 speedway to (finally) get the recorded 1/4 mile time. I will also be going up against a modified '94 ES 3.5L to see how I 'measure up'.

Ok...here we go. This happened a few months ago when I still didn't want to risk gunning it to high into the RPM range.

My car (2000 Intrepid R/T) vs. Dodge Dakota R/T

We were pulled up to a red light. The light turned green, he smoked his tires and got a slight lead on me. I figured what the hell. He beat me by less than a half a car length, but I would have beaten him if I gunned it to redline no problem.

My car vs. Grand AM GT

Poor dude didn't stand a chance.

My car vs. Ford Contour SVT

I got a car length on him and hit the speed limit and slowed down. He than flew by me going well over the speed limit. Again, this was before I had the guts to really gun my car.

Yep, A kills section is a must. :)

A kills section would be great. My story is with a Mustang. Now the day was rainy that afternoon so the roads were wet still at night. I was coming home from the movies and there was I would say a 96 mustang gt driving down the road acting all sporty and crap. We get up to the stop light, the light turns green. I didn't gun it because my tires would have spun like a mofo, but i took off w/ out spinning my tires and I looked back and saw him 1/2 way into the intersection spinning his tires while i was at least 3 car lenghts ahead. Now i know it was rainy and all but a kill is a kill, and havin better traction means better accel.

A 89' Spirit R/T
A Sleeper Twin Turboed Talon AWD
An Honest to goodness Tubroed/ Heavly Modded 2nd gen Honda Prelude, they are so uncommon here, 99% are all show so it took me by BIG suprise. But the Eagle ;) held its own.. utill the limited kicked in..

I may be sleeping but an 89 spirit R/T, that is a Dodge spirit, right? They made an R/T (that was fast)?

The Eagle Talon does not suprise me, similar to the Turbo Plymouth Laser which I believe packs more horsepower the the 3.5 trep, both stock.

sure did boy, it had one of chrysler's famous turbo 4 cylinder motors, turbo guys not sure but it was the Turbo II right? There is a guy here with a red one that has 4DR2NV on the plates. He got on it once and it sounds so cool, he has done some mods to the turbo, you can so hear that thing wind up

It was a Turbo III actually.. 224HP from the factory out of a 2.2 with a Lotus designed head. Mated to a 5-speed manual, and you got one quick little four door.

I would really love to get my hands on one in decent shape for a weekend car..

Thanks for the info Wildcat, couldn't remember. In fact I had seen for sale for barely over 3,000 in New York a few months ago and would have loved to get it too. Hey if you guys are curious to how awesome the turbo motors were check this out http://webpages.krausonline.com/spaul/index.html
I'm sure most of you have seen it already.

See, an IROC Daytona would totally defeat the purpose of a sleeper. Most people would expect that to go fast. Now a minivan loaded with the wife and kids would seem like easy pickings until you end up seeing nothing but fading taillights.

That brings back memories. My old man had a 1992 Aerostar (not unlike the one I had) that he shoe horned a 4.6L V8 from a smashed Mustang Cobra into. That thing was hell on wheels. If you launched right, you were gone. Not many people picked to line up against me at a red light when word got out. :)

Djnrg,

That's right... a '99 3.2L 'trep. We got to the next light... the guy had his windows down, and I asked him what he had in it... a 3.2L.

Now, how is that so impressive? After all, the 1st gen 3.5Ls aren't bad engines at all... and I would put my '97 3.5L up against any 3.2L. (grin)
